ReNo Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Well just to jump on the bandwagon, I had a run through as well. The screenshots really made it look incredible, but in game, while still pretty, it is less impressive. I spawned at the top of some fire escape on the outside of a building, and found my only real choice of route was to head down two stair sets, a ladder, and run along a platform - much too far a distance to travel without being offered an alternative route. The fire escape was also only really wide enough for a single person to fit past. I was unhappy to see this was the case with the vast majority of the map. The main interior section had potential with all the criss-crossing upper tiers, however again it is just one linear path in essence. Worse still was the exceptionally cramped lower sections - being forced to duck under train carriage connectors, and even having to crouch to get through what claims to be a doorway, just doesn't lead to a good deathmatch experience. With looks like this, the author obviously has huge potential, but he needs to play some deathmatch games. Quote
Fullauto Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Yeah, I agree with ReNo. It's obviously made by a person with artistic talent, but also with no clue about layout and the like - all the walkways and interiors are mirrored off real life, not oversized like they should be. Quote
skdr Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Looks awesome but plays like sh*t. Overall performance is just too bad for multiplayer. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 i just played it, and it really looks amazing. but i'm convinced the gamplay just wont work. Both fps and layout are lacking ;( too many crap blocking your path, way too dark spots and extremely confusing. Not anything fitting for a deathmatch game like this i guess this will be remembered as a bunch of pretty pics Quote
W01f Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 What a shame I mean..sure I'm sorta happy because now I have a better chance in the contest...but still..imagine how amazing this map would be if it played as good as it looks. Maybe the author can forget about the contest and just work on the layout until it's decent. Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 i want to work for a game company Quote
von*ferret Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 lol just reading this I'm feeling the creators pain. GOod thing I learned this lesson when creating fairytales. Quote
RA7 Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Looks awesome but plays like sh*t. Overall performance is just too bad for multiplayer. True, u get stuck bhind trains, stairs, layout makes no sense, but the look is great. Quote
hamst3r Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 yea, downloaded ran around....look beautiful....but it will play like crap. Quote
Taylor Swift Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Robert Briscoe, honestly your map is best. Quote
mike-0 Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I disagree, nexus. Imagine this in a server with 10 people. Gameplay and FPS is definitely an issue. Quote
Zacker Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 This is one of the most impressive HL2DM maps I have seen! It looks very impressive and appealing. Beta2 ready: http://www.littlelostpoly.co.uk/Appz/dm_depot_beta2.zip Quote
JAL Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 This map would definitely deserve to win the Valve Mapping Contest :megaman: Quote
Taylor Swift Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I disagree, nexus. Imagine this in a server with 10 people. Gameplay and FPS is definitely an issue. It's fine if you do it. But i think it's very good map. Quote
