PogoP Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 (edited) Our tech director just emailed out this fascinating read on modularity within the Elder Scrolls games, written by one of the senior designers at Bethesda.. This is a fascinating look into the process and workflow that went in to Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout. I'd recommend everyone here give it a read! http://blog.joelburg...n-gdc-2013.html Edited April 24, 2013 by PogoP penE and kikette 2 Quote

PogoP Posted April 25, 2013 Author Report Posted April 25, 2013 What is this, everybody share a link to pretty much the same article, day? Quote
Beck Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 Just flicked through it at work and it looks very in-depth. Shall definitely be giving it a good read later on. Thanks for the link! Quote
PogoP Posted April 25, 2013 Author Report Posted April 25, 2013 No probs! It really resonates with my inner-OCD sufferer. Quote
Chimeray Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 Really cool article, only read it halfway through though, gonna finish it at home. Anyhow, has anybody used Creation Kit? They're talking about efficiency, workflows and all that stuff to make the magic happen in a reasonable amount of time. But from some experiments I did when investigating the tools I see a TON of ways to increase efficiency .. The camera controls are really bad imo and hold you back the most. It's sort of a pain in the ass if you're used to (dare I say it) better tools, it's not mere preferences here there's just features lacking. - No WASD camera control (FPS-style "walking" through the scene) - Scrolling on mouse to zoom in is a pain in the ass, slow as fuck. (Without a way to quickly increase sensitivity without going into the menu?) - Can't orbit camera around itself, always requires an object to focus on. - CTRL+F to switch to an object is, while nice, slow. - Can't change snapping grid increments on the fly with shortcut, requires menu. If any of you know how to do these that would be awesome Other than that I'll just have to get used to it, I doubt it can ever be as fast though. Quote

They need to start working on tools to chase the world Quote
General Vivi Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 His GDC presentation was pretty substantial in terms of what they've learned. Which btw, was awesome sauce on many levels. Quote
