Sjonsson Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Hello guys! My name is Stefan Jonsson and I'm a Level Design student from The Game Assembly(http://www.thegameassembly.com/). I am just about to start looking for an internship this coming autumn. Here's my portfolio, not entirely finished but a lot of it is. http://www.stefan-jonsson.se Feedback is very much appreciated! Best Regards, Stefan Quote
Sjonsson Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 Hey everyone! I'm not fully satisfied with my portfolio but I am not sure why. Is there anyone here who can take a look and give my some critique? Quote
blackdog Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) It's pretty standard, and i'd see it as a positive trait, i mean: you've done things the same way most portfolios in the industry are arranged, so that's a good start. I guess then it's just a matter of contents... and there's where you are at, so it's kinda ok. You could arrange to have your contacts always present in the header, have seen that a lot. You have videos of the games, which is good, but I'd put in also screenshots, YT may be blocked behind some firewall in some places. Nice you went on to illustrate the design process, but again, i'd first put screens. I haven't read everything, but i've sifted through the page for the SC2 mod, and you can probably refine the writing a bit to have it even more fluid; i'd definitely put the "haven't tested with players" error, first. Hope the veterans will comment, i haven't been employed in the Industry so... A side note: as a web designer it hurts my eyes to see everything is an image and you almost have no text. Haven't check the code to see the platform you are using, but using the proper tags will help your positioning in the search engines (correct use of titles - h1, h2 ecc - is very important in that) Edited May 8, 2013 by blackdog Quote
Mazy Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 It's quite cool that you're so in-depth in the process of what you did on these projects, but it also feels tad heavy when you're browsing through the portfolio. Though I'd probably try and shorten and simplify most of it to the bare minimum (most people that are gonna look at this probably don't have that much patience), then a more clean layout would probably help even more. It's not a super difficult layout to read, but I felt like it was zig-zagging my view all the time, since it went from left to right most of the time. Maybe try and have it more cleanly table based. Your actual content looks pretty good, Level Designers with some actual code knowledge = big plus~ blackdog 1 Quote
Sjonsson Posted May 8, 2013 Author Report Posted May 8, 2013 Thanks for the answers! Very much appreciated, I will update it and come back to you! Maybe try and have it more cleanly table based. What do you mean with table based? Like things are on a grid? Quote
Mazy Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 Yeah, or at least a bit more neatly organised. In a lot of cases you have two images joined at the middle, with text in the empty spaces next to them, which is kinda irritating to read, but that might just be my personal taste Quote
Sjonsson Posted May 9, 2013 Author Report Posted May 9, 2013 Oh, like in the pictures where I explain my workflow for the level production? Quote
Sjonsson Posted July 18, 2013 Author Report Posted July 18, 2013 It took me a while but now I have changed the layout of the website, there are still some errors mentioned in the thread that I have not dealth with yet. Any feedback? Quote
Sjonsson Posted May 1, 2014 Author Report Posted May 1, 2014 I've been reworking my whole website last couple of weeks. If anyone of you would give me your opinion on it I would be very happy.http://www.stefan-jonsson.se/ Minos 1 Quote
AlexM Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Why is projects separated from portfolio? Some of that stuff is really awesome. I didn't click it at first because I thought I was already looking at all your projects. Quote
Sjonsson Posted May 3, 2014 Author Report Posted May 3, 2014 Some time ago I heard that it's better to feature what you did recently and a smaller amount pieces rather than a plethora, what's your view on that? And thanks for taking a look! Quote
