NickMBR Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Fellows, I'm Nicolas, this is my first post here on MapCore. I'm working on a modern/futuristic design for a map that can be played in different gamemodes, like classic bomb/defuse, arms race, demolition and deathmatch. My first idea was making just a arms race map, but with the time and the layout changes, I saw possibilities for a assorted gameplay. This was the first attempt to create a nice looking building in a rooftop(cobertura in my language) With the progress, I had to cut 1/3 of the "building" and change the initial layout to increase the framerate. The current layout/design: I'm always trying to improve, can you guys give me your opinions and feedbacks from this pictures ? Here are some previous shots: http://cloud-2.steam...0781A5DB397D2A/ http://cloud.steampo...B880141E54C93E/ http://cloud-2.steam...A8502DB571EC20/ http://cloud-2.steam...FB9F3AF0303591/ http://cloud-2.steam...E7615732DA1F68/ Also, I really enjoy all of your work and i'll try to be more frequent here. Minos Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Looks great I actually had the same idea for an AR map but it never got anywhere. BR? Quote
Taylor Swift Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 looks great but need more detail and color variation. Quote
NickMBR Posted April 11, 2013 Author Report Posted April 11, 2013 Looks great I actually had the same idea for an AR map but it never got anywhere. BR? Thanks, I had this idea when vertigo came out, with the 3D skybox (witch I'm actually using) a rooftop battle would be nice. Yes ! Are you from here too ? xD looks great but need more detail and color variation. What do you mean by color variation Nexus ? Canyou give me a more descriptive feedback that can help me improve this map ? If you mean to add more color to the map, the theme of the rooftop is just white buildings with some wood and green, the interiors have some different colors, like red and yellow to break the white/black/brown buildings, also I put some green and dark red bushes. What color can I add to match the current layout but don't break it ? Quote
Taylor Swift Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) what i mean is.. adding colors to the map that fit together... so i mean the environment lighting have to fit together with the rest.. i sometimes use this http://www.colorsont...colorwizard.asp if u get the idea, you can improve your map. Nexus, I'll definitely do some searchs about the use of the color, the site you sent have only short explanations, Do you think the color study is the first step to improve the map ? I mean, I just make maps for fun, but this is the first time I see how the color can change the subject/layout/theme of the map. Thanks Quote
NickMBR Posted April 14, 2013 Author Report Posted April 14, 2013 Some new updates pictures with fov_cs_debug 120: What do you guys think ? Thanks ! Quote
ShockaPop Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 The last screenshots look like you used some fucked up FOV.. did you? I'd rather see some normal-FOV screenshots. Quote
NickMBR Posted April 14, 2013 Author Report Posted April 14, 2013 The last screenshots look like you used some fucked up FOV.. did you? I'd rather see some normal-FOV screenshots. Yes, like I said I was using the fov_cs_debug with a value of 120, just to show you some high fov pictures without taking two or three pics of the same area. Quote
FMPONE Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 I'd keep the increased fov to like 90-110 at the most. otherwise it starts looking silly. map looks pretty cool though NickMBR 1 Quote
blackdog Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Maybe a bit too yellow-ish illumination, as a whole? In the art-gallery room the floor texture seems too upscaled to me, it gives me a sense like if the walls in the middle are floating... at least I would try to break it up. FMPONE and NickMBR 2 Quote

Maybe a bit too yellow-ish illumination, as a whole? In the art-gallery room the floor texture seems too upscaled to me, it gives me a sense like if the walls in the middle are floating... at least I would try to break it up. Indeed, most of the rooms use only some light blue and yellow lights, I can use some variation of the yellow like the bar and the art gallery. I'd just blockout the art gallery, I'll add more detail to the ceiling and the floor, increase lightmaps and change the metal supports. Quote
FMPONE Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Some trims on the floor of the gallery wall where it meets the floor would be nice. And I'd lower the floor scale a bit, that wood looks like it came from a giant redwood or something. I'd raise the ceilings in the cafe as well. Quote
Em' Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Small and quick comments : In that screen, we found the largest tree in the world. And its been chopped for that skycraper floor ! Maybe replace with a texture that fits better, like fine wood plank. Maybe add some lights in this one,it's a bit dark for a restaurant. And overall I think the light is too yellow. -- It looks good, but lacks some details (on textures and brush) to make it really smooth and clean ^^ Quote
NickMBR Posted May 20, 2013 Author Report Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) Made some changes with your feedbacks ! I'm having some troubles with some odd shapes in the walls: Some blue spots where is meant to be dark and this blue shapes, anyone know how to fix it ? What do you guys think ? Thanks !
