W01f Posted January 11, 2005 Author Report Posted January 11, 2005 too bad they didnt use that huge size in tribes 3, its rediculous how small those maps are Agreed. It seems like they took quite a few steps back with that game..decreased gameplay depth, smaller environments...*sticks with Tribes 2* It takes me 6 minutes to diagonally cross the map. In a Raptor I remember hearing about a D3 map where someone slapped together a bunnch of copy/pasted terrain meshes (probably the ones in the monorail levels), and it ended up taking nearly 10 minutes to cross on foot...Though you do walk pretty slow in D3, it's still pretty impressive.
Schmung Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 mmkay, to calrify, I was trying to say that regardless of how good the engine is, it's the game you make with it that markets your engine, hence the reason why Source is more popular than D3, even if it's technically superior. As for the whole comment on Hell, I was thinking more along the lines of a few levels or something, not the whole game.
Pericolos0 Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 doom3 needed a biodome and a huge spacship launch bay or something and a place filled with really huge vents but instead they come up with hallways and more hallways
mikezilla Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 the first people to directly port quake 3 dm to doom 3 will recieve my love and my respect. until then source all the way baby.
TomWithTheWeather Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Quake3 is the best multiplayer DM FPS. No other multiplayer DM FPS game tops the skill and stategy required to be truely good at Quake3. I'd play Q3 over CSS/HL3DM anyday.
KungFuSquirrel Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Heh, DD was right when he said you Gearbox guys loved Quake 3. Q3 is hands down my favorite (*cough*released*cough*) MP game. The speed, the mayhem, the fun... everything DM should be. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first 2 Quakes in MP and the UT series is top-notch, but Q3 is the one I always find myself going back to even after all the years. I wish looking back I'd jumped into the mapping community for that... So much crazy abstract off-the-wall design, not to mention the fluidity of the good stuff.
Tequila Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I loved the characters. There's no greater fun that blowing up 'Fat Lucy' with a well-aimed rocket. Ooo, and the honking sound to notify a successful hit, especially when peppering a person with the machinegun.
kleinluka Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 ubi turned me into a quake player. i suck and get my ass kicked every lunchbreak but its still tons of fun. so yes. quake = win
ReNo Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 One of my flatmates seems to claim that Quake is the fastest DM game out there, but personally I think thats bullshit. Its quite fun and all, and amazing for its time, but saying its really fast just seems like crap to me. Quake 3, UT, and even HLDM when played by top players, are far far faster.
insta Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 The original HLDM was one of the most fast paced DM games ever, and still my favorite. Longjump module + gaussgun = hot diggity! Also, Reno, check your pms.
rockdude86 Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 nothing faster than a instagib game ut2k4 with lowgrav and a gamespeed of 150% especialy in the map antalus.
TomWithTheWeather Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 UT2004 is the fastest and most twitchy, Quake3 is a better game for DM. I like Q3 for DM and UT2004 for all other gametypes.
Alf-Life Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I still play the odd game (or marathon) of TFC when there's people and not Foxbots on the server. So that'll have to be no.1 for me.
W01f Posted January 13, 2005 Author Report Posted January 13, 2005 Am I the only Quake 2 fan here? Don't you guys remember the railgun that actually took sill to use? Not many players online these days...though still more than Doom3 Quake3 is awesome too, but Q2 will always be my favorite for DM. Nothing beats The Edge...nothing.
