Doom3 can produce larger environments than Source?

too bad they didnt use that huge size in tribes 3, its rediculous how small those maps are

Agreed. It seems like they took quite a few steps back with that game..decreased gameplay depth, smaller environments...*sticks with Tribes 2*

It takes me 6 minutes to diagonally cross the map. In a Raptor

I remember hearing about a D3 map where someone slapped together a bunnch of copy/pasted terrain meshes (probably the ones in the monorail levels), and it ended up taking nearly 10 minutes to cross on foot...Though you do walk pretty slow in D3, it's still pretty impressive.

mmkay, to calrify, I was trying to say that regardless of how good the engine is, it's the game you make with it that markets your engine, hence the reason why Source is more popular than D3, even if it's technically superior. As for the whole comment on Hell, I was thinking more along the lines of a few levels or something, not the whole game.

Heh, DD was right when he said you Gearbox guys loved Quake 3. :)

Q3 is hands down my favorite (*cough*released*cough*) MP game. The speed, the mayhem, the fun... everything DM should be. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first 2 Quakes in MP and the UT series is top-notch, but Q3 is the one I always find myself going back to even after all the years.

I wish looking back I'd jumped into the mapping community for that... So much crazy abstract off-the-wall design, not to mention the fluidity of the good stuff.

I loved the characters. There's no greater fun that blowing up 'Fat Lucy' with a well-aimed rocket. Ooo, and the honking sound to notify a successful hit, especially when peppering a person with the machinegun.

One of my flatmates seems to claim that Quake is the fastest DM game out there, but personally I think thats bullshit. Its quite fun and all, and amazing for its time, but saying its really fast just seems like crap to me. Quake 3, UT, and even HLDM when played by top players, are far far faster.

The original HLDM was one of the most fast paced DM games ever, and still my favorite. Longjump module + gaussgun = hot diggity!

Also, Reno, check your pms.

Am I the only Quake 2 fan here? Don't you guys remember the railgun that actually took sill to use? Not many players online these days...though still more than Doom3 ;)

Quake3 is awesome too, but Q2 will always be my favorite for DM. Nothing beats The Edge...nothing.
