Skacky Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 (edited) It's alive, and it looks pretty damn good. Similar to Dishonored albeit more gothic and medieval. I honestly can't complain, even if the protagonist (Garrett?) looks really bad and the bow is kinda cringe worthy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=8En3Y4Hy7vI http://www.neogaf.co...724&postcount=1 The title of the game is simply Thief now (no subtitles or anything), is a reboot and is to be released in 2014 for PC and next-gen consoles. I don't really like this reboot idea, but if they do it right it could be interesting. Edited March 5, 2013 by Skacky -HP- 1 Quote
dux Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 Ehhhh I dunno. It looks nice but doesn't really look like Thief to me. Looks more like a mix of dishonored and deus ex HR Quote
Skacky Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 True, but I think it still has this mystique I like so much. I don't know, it doesn't look out of place at all. By the way, the game is now simply called Thief (no subtitle or anything) and Game Informer has a cover about it. Looks like there is a video there but it doesn't load for me. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/03/05/april-cover-revealed-thief.aspx Quote
Erratic Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 Looks like an extension of Thief 3's art direction. Good shit. Quote
PogoP Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 Ehhhh I dunno. It looks nice but doesn't really look like Thief to me. Looks more like a mix of dishonored and deus ex HR Oh yeah, looks very similar to Deus Ex. I loved the flying hover car in those Thief screens. ⌐■_■, Rick_D and onji 3 Quote
dux Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 And thief was never "gothic" - it was steampunk mixed with medieval. God damnit. *loads thief 2* Also fuck you liam lol PogoP 1 Quote
Skacky Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 (edited) Thief 2 was very victorian though, especially the manors and city buildings (those were more haussmannian in that regard). Thief 1 had slight gothic vibes with, as you said, lots of steampunk and medieval stuff, and it looks like Thief (4) will have a lot more gothic stuff. Also, Pogo made me laugh. Thrik Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 Interesting how Square Enix is putting so much into all these stealth titles. Being my favourite kind of game, I can't complain. Although I've just realised that if Eidos Montreal is putting so much work into this, that's time not being spent on a new Deus Ex. Mazy 1 Quote
Skacky Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 (edited) But Garrett is a cooler guy and doesn't afraid of anything when he wants his gold. By the way, a guy from TTLG is reading GI right now and reports this: Garrett has been away from his hometown for a long time. When he finally returns to the industrial complex known as The City, he discovers a city of melting prosperity. The region has come under rule of an iron-fisted Baron, who crushes his citizens under the boot of a militarized watch. Propoganda posters speak of prosperity, but this good fortune comes only to the elite. Garrett isn't interested in being the City's hero, but he'll use the political chaos as an opportunity to get rich. It looks like they kept the mentality of the previous games and didn't make Garrett some 'good' thief, which I like. However, GI also reads: Eidos was vague about how faithful it would remain to Thief's original lore, but did say that it would tone down many of the series' magical elements. Players won't likely encounter undead monsters or prowling dinosaurs as they did in the early Thief titles. However, Thief's concept art clearly shows that one of Garrett's eyes is a different color than the other, so it's possible that Eidos considers at least part of Garrett's original history as canon. Which is a shame. I loved the undead and other similar stuff in Thief, which is why I couldn't really get into Thief 2 as much. Edited March 5, 2013 by Skacky Quote
-HP- Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 Oh wow, if the textures werent so photo realistic, I would say those came straight out of Dishonored. They even have a brothel. http://gamemag.ru/news/pervie-skrinshoti-novogo-thief-84980 Looks pretty good tho! Will deffo get this, it's an Eidos Montreal game! Quote
Skacky Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 More info on Thief: http://gamingeverything.com/42090/thief-tons-of-details-from-game-informer/ No mention of the light gem, and Focus is actually much more than just a loot vision, which really does suck. Like Blink in Dishonored, I will most probably never use it. Xiao Xiao is also very ridiculous for a name and is really jarring in an universe such as Thief's. Oh well, it does sound interesting though. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted March 5, 2013 Report Posted March 5, 2013 And thief was never "gothic" - it was steampunk mixed with medieval. God damnit. But gothic = medieval. Perhaps you think of this: -HP-, Kedhrin and Evert 3 Quote
