Sprony Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 It has been posted in the PS4 thread but I think it's worthy of it's own topic. For some another generic FPS but for me the reason to buy the new PS4. Besides, I really like Killzone's art style. Quote
Puddy Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I believe the key word here is 'generic'. Quote
Sprony Posted February 24, 2013 Author Report Posted February 24, 2013 Be that as it may, don't tell me that trailer did nothing for you? Quote
blackdog Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 for me the reason to buy the new PS4. Besides, I really like Killzone's art style. Is this really a killer app? I always really loved the art in KZ, so much that I thought to seek a used PS2 at the time of the first, but then you watch the videoreviews and just think "maybe not". Be that as it may, don't tell me that trailer did nothing for you? Personally? Yes. It's gorgeous, but other than the astonishing vistas i wasn't impressed... i mean, we've seen this kind of stuff already. I'm curious to see more, but i don't expect it to revolutionize the "COD formula". Last thing, i was disappointed by the gun design, i didn't like the rifle shown, if i think back of what they had at the origins, that stuff seemed a mash-up between current and ww1 weaponry Personally, haven't seen anything that makes me think "i must have this console", except the console itself, i like the concepts it's built upon. Will see what MS has in cooking. Quote
Sprony Posted February 24, 2013 Author Report Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) I think it has to do with what you are expecting. For me, the PS4 isn't that interesting. But I want Killzone, Uncharted, God of War, etc so I will buy it regardless. The first Killzone was a horrible game. The second was great and the third was average. I'm not going in expecting the new pinnacle in gaming. I just want to enjoy the art and shoot stuff and it does play differently from COD.That's enough for me. Looking back, I should have phrased myself better in the opening post. I should have said I would have bought the PS4 anyway but since Killzone is in the lineup, I now have an incentive to buy it at launch. Edited February 24, 2013 by SpronyvanJohnson Quote
Rick_D Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 Be that as it may, don't tell me that trailer did nothing for you? What was it supposed to do? Some great art and neat effects, but uninspired storytelling, bland cutscenes, awful combat and AI, and "epic events" that are jaw achingly dull. I feel like video games are being let down by story and design at this point - we've spent so much time pushing the graphical fidelity that gameplay and narrative have been neglected, and it's really starting to show. More explosions doesn't mean more intense or exciting. Been watching the first season of 24 again, and the drama they manage to get across in very few locations and zero explosions puts videogames to shame. -HP-, dkm, 2d-chris and 5 others 8 Quote
Pampers Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 This was boring, I think I'm suffering from explosion fatigue -HP- and Buddy 2 Quote

Fair enough and I'm certainly with you regarding game play and narrative. But that's not something I expect from Killzone. I guess I'm still not suffering from explosion fatique. Which doesn't mean I like every COD clone out there and I do appreciate great story and game play. Perhaps, you all being (aspiring) developers influences your perception of these things? You all certainly have a much wider understanding of how it works what's going on and I'm still more on the "look how pretty this explodes" level. Regardless, I can appreciate the discussion this thread manages to provoke Edited February 24, 2013 by SpronyvanJohnson Quote
FMPONE Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) The art style isn't quite clicking for me, but you can't deny those are true next-gen graphics. As much as it really felt natural to hate on that trailer given the really dorky shooting mechanics, when he started flying around with the ship I started coming around and think it could be pretty badass by the time it gets released Edited February 24, 2013 by FMPONE Quote

Pampers Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 heh, and on the other side you have overly pretencious indie games with shit graphics Quote

Erratic Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 Just think how much time and effort it took to create that sequence and you see it maybe once for a few moments. moderngamedesign.jpeg D3ads and Rick_D 2 Quote
