D3ads Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) 'Cause it aint 2012 anymore Beat Max Payne 3; Despite the radical change in setting it still manages to maintain much of the same atmosphere, James Mccaffrey is unmistakably Max Payne and the dialogue echoes Sam Lake's writing style often. Max is definately a lot grumpier and angrier than before, it feels kinda weird having him drop so many F-bombs after usually just uttering "Damnit" in a messy situation. The environments were astounding at times, especially the Favella, the look, feel and musical soundtrack through those sections was very Brazil. I was especially impressed with the skybox detail, it felt very much like a huge bustling city just going about it's daily business in the background. I had *some* issues; The introduction of a cover system was a mistake, it forced me into using it instead of bullet time because it didn't last long and you died from a small amount of gunfire (which is funny considering you don't always kill an enemy instantly with a headshot, some messed up hitboxes going on there). When you did use slow motion, Max would always end up on the floor getting hit repeatedly until you realise you're suppose to get him up off of the floor this time around. Also he kept switching weapons after every cutscene and sniper aim was inverted... wtf?! I thought it was odd that the Portugeuse dialogue appeared written in the language in subtitles rather than an English translation, I suppose the point is Max doesn't understand it but it would have been nice to know what they were saying half the time. I had a few moral issues with one of chapters, namely When you're storming the UFE HQ, you're basically going around killing Police. I know that the organisation is supposed to be corrupt but that doesn't mean everyone working for it is.. does it? I don't know, I just felt it was a bit OTT. I thought the New York sections were wasted since there were only two of them and they were pretty short which was a shame. Overall, I did very much enjoy it but felt it lacked the polish of the previous games... Btw did anyone notice the theme to the ending? It references part of MP2. When Max confronts Mona at the funhouse in Chapter 2; Mona: What do you want from me? Max (narrating): A smoke, some whiskey, for the sun to shine... ..and that's what he got in the end, so I think we can assume that this is the end of the road for Max, he finally has some kind of peace... That said; if an Mp4 were to be made where Max moves to Russia then I'd be hyped Edited February 12, 2013 by D3ads Quote
Erratic Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 The MP3 ending was solid. Feels like an old action movie. Whether that's in line with the rest of the series I don't know but it felt right. If the fucking thing wasn't 30gbs I'd install and play it again right now. Sentura 1 Quote
Puddy Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 Yeah, MP3 ending wrapped things up nicely. Bittersweet imho. Really liked the game overall, but I agree that it didn't need a cover system. Quote

Nysuatro Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 Just finished Mirrors Edge again. This game always inspires me. Thank god it got more brilliant moments then the frustrating ones ... It is one of those games where I need a lot of 5 minute breaks Beck 1 Quote
Minos Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Grave diggin! After months of playing this on and off... I just finished Final Fantasy XIII-2 This was a pretty interesting case. To be honest I never cared much about Final Fantasy until about a year or two ago, but ended up skipping FF 13 due to the bad reviews. Earlier this year I got an itch for some Final Fantasy and decided to pick up this up since it seemed to have fixed most of the problems with the first one and had cool environments. At first I found the characters a bit annoying and the story convoluted. At some point I just gave up trying to follow what the hell was going on cause the amount of information was just overwhelming. I even gave up the game halfway through a few months ago due to a very annoying part (Academia 400AF. There are so many places and branches to go and the game never really explains how to use the level navigator screen either so I decided to just use a faq to figure out where to go at some points.... and damn, does this game get better on the second half. The story (even though it's confusing as hell at first and takes a while to pick up the pace) is actually pretty clever and refreshing, with some really interesting and unexpected twists. I'd place the experience on this one at the same level as when I played Mass Effect for the first time. It's shame this game got ignored by the main public, it almost feels like a hidden gem even if this is a proper Final Fantasy game. Anyway, pick this up if you have an open mind, like some grinding or just likes good time travel paradox stories 9/10 Quote

Chimeray Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) Shelter (the badger game). Saw a lot of potential in this one but it didn't live up to its expectations. I also finished it in 76 minutes so that probably makes it the shortest game I've played on Steam Too bad, could've been an emotional journey but it's just lackluster. Game dev tycoon, played it for about 10 hours but that's cos I really like simulation games Pretty decent! Edited September 1, 2013 by Chimeray Quote
Beck Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 I think the only game I've finished this year has been Gunpoint. I mostly play multiplayer games so there's no way to really complete them! Quote
Sprony Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 I just finished Company of Heroes 2. I heard about pissed of Russians downvoting the game on metacritic due the game's portrayal of them. They go way too far in this because there's a lot of truth in the story and they need to accept that. However, I can understand where the offensive is coming from. The game's primary focus seems to show how horrible the Russians were. It gets old pretty fast and they could have toned it down a bit. The Germans look like choir boys in comparison to that. The game itself was very enjoyable. Just more of the same really and the original was already great, so no complaints. The only thing that bothered me was the "always fire" attitude of your own army. Never in a game did I loose so many troops to friendly fire. Oh, your fighting close combat with your veteran squads against a outnumbered enemy. Fuck you! You've just stepped in range of my mortar fire, bye bye now! Quote
Beck Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) Just completed GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony over the past couple of days to get my GTA fix before V gets here. Quite enjoyed it! Edited September 15, 2013 by Beck Quote
TarrySruman Posted September 15, 2013 Report Posted September 15, 2013 I beat Outlast last night. That game got really weird for the last 30 mins or so. Quote
