Why?

Don't get me wrong. I think those cinematics are amazing and I think they should continue making them. However, SC and Diablo barely passes for mediocre video game storytelling, so I can't imagine it doing any better as a movie. Except being a huge fan service, of course.

I think having this format for their cinematic stuff is what's making it so easy to enjoy. :zoidberg:

Its a good point, but collaborating with a decent writer should not be a problem for blizz when making a movie. Just as long as the cinematic department at blizzard creates the damn thing :)

That being said, the prequel novels for starcraft 2 by Christie Golden weren't horrendously bad either, so I guess she could try to write a screen play at some point.

Blizzard would have to produce/exec produce the entire thing and get a Hollywood studio to handle distribution...and that's it. The minute you get Hollywood exec producers involved in the creative side it would go to utter shit. (No offense, Hollywood...you can make good movies but movies based on video games that you make are shit.) Now, how many studios with big distribution experience would line up to work with Blizzard and not get creative input? Nice round number.

This all assumes Blizzard could find the right person to write the script and the right director to make it happen. Without those things it would probably be crap with or without a big external studio meddling in.

I couldn't agree more. I was simply talking about hiring a good writer as a blizzard employee. I don't think they would need a high profile director as they've clearly shown the ability to produce some quality shots. An engaging story is what they need the most to pull this off imho.

I'm interested in the new multiplayer stuff, but honestly after Starcraft 2: WOL and Diablo 3 I don't trust Blizzard to make a coherent story any longer.

I dont like that you pair WOL with D3. WOL had a decent story. Nothing revolutionizing from blizzard, but not horrendous like the d3 one... But then again I've also read a couple of the starcraft novels from Christie Golden so I might be mixing what was in the books vs the game.
