Anybody play this series?

Its one of my guilty pleasures. I've near 100% completed Yakuza 1-4, and once i'm done with Yakuza 4 i'll play the zombie one... Yakuza 5 came out in Japan... i don't know if they'll release it in America though :/ guess it's a good time to learn Japanese.

The series suffers from some traditional Japanese storytelling elements (over dramatic, "honor" stories, and some super cheese ball heart warming shit). However, some of the mini-games and side stories are hilarious... and some of the characters are super bad ass.

this scene was awesome:

I played the demo for 3 and sort of dismissed it thinking the fighting was a little rough.

Fast forward 2 years later before I was about to leave the country I thought part 4 would be a good way to learn some Japanese. Damn this game is fun! The overall city area is small but it's jampacked with things to do everywhere. The story is so good and the fighting is really fun (not sure if I didnt give 3 enough of a chance or 4 is just a lot better).

I'm looking forward to 100%ing my game when I get back to my ps3 in 8 months but I think my lack of Shogi and MahJong skills are going to prevent that from happening.

How are 1-3 compared to 4? Are they as fun overall? I kind of want to go back and go through the story.

yeah some of those minigames are just TOO hard. the Batting cages really piss me off... and so do some of those japanese card/dice games... and i don't understand mahjong at all...

yakuza 4 is definitely the best in the series so far. However, Yakuza 3 was really awesome with how many moves you could learn for one person. Towards the end, i knew enough moves to put the moves possible in mortal kombat to shame (and theyre way more technical).

Yakuza 1 and 2 are great, they look way different though. Most of the time the camera is stuck on a fixed position. However, they have more "run around and fight a bunch of guys in sequence" moments. Yakuza 3 and 4 have waaaay more content than 1 and 2.. but I think I liked Yakuza 1's story the most (so far)... granted i'm only like 30% into Yakuza 4.
