Flavio Mauri - 2D artist, designer

I finally got my portfolio done, I'll be grateful for your feedbacks on contents and presentation.

Little intro: I'm working as a 2D artist on mobile games with friends, we tried to build a startup.

I have an education in web development, but I would like to go back to when I started with map design. My hope is to get hired by a game dev studio in QA or 2D artist position, in order to gain understanding of the game dev process in a professional environment (and gtfo of Italy) while in the spare time start building a portfolio to then apply for a level design position(1).

It is my intention to scrap the Smashing Planets trailer for a walkthrough I will make myself because the comics weren't made by me and I don't find appropriate the intro part, I also need to put some more intersting screenshots.

I still have to make the .pdf version of the cv so that is not linked, everything else should work correctly.

Disclaimer: to practice on the latest web standards, the site is written using the basics of HTML5; I've tested it on IE7-8 and there are a couple of glitches I'm trying to address, so browse it with Chrome/Safari/FF for best experience. If anybody can check it in IE9, I'd be happy to know about manifest problems.

(1)Why the hell aren't you doing that already if you care so much?

I don't have a gaming rig and cannot burn through my thin savings to get one now. I switched to a MacBook in 2008 and that still works fine for web design, but on an Intel card I cannot run anything useful gaming-wise. (I play on a X360.)

The only Windows machine I have access to is a very old laptop that can (luckily) run HL2 (low settings); while waiting for responses on the applications I'll try to build something on there.

I can't say much about the content, I'm not very good with 2D art. :)

I like the site though, great work! Clean and tidy. Reminds me of the Metro UI from Windows 8 (in a good way, I hate win8).

Thanks guys for the appreciation! :)

On the matter of style I just don't want to overdo this, my objective with this was to be as minimal as possible, but display I'm a web designer, so yes, W8 has probably percolated its influence. I am actually in fear that this will be already too elaborated for the standards, but I cannot just stick a few screens on a blank page and have the same effect of the contents of you mapping guys :(

I don't want to add fluff to trick anybody, I want to humbly display I can do 2D and web stuff, getting hired for these skills and work from there to get back on the level design track, or at least test if I'm cut for it.

Forgot to clarify: in "contents" I comprise also text, I'm curious if it's enough, too much/little...

Like your resumé page is all white. It's not inviting to read I think.

Mmh, this is actually intersting note, I mean, my first idea was to make the resume look like a case study! but again, i got the impression i would be going overboard with presentation. Also, most of the resumes I've read clicking through your signatures are pretty basic with the occasional exception of an image put like an header, so I thought that would be the best practice, but i'd be happy to get informations that prove the contrary :)
