Chimeray Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Very one sided article. Some people don't even play with sound and couldn't care less about "the experience", they just want more score, etc... It's an interesting article but there's not one way to design games and there's not one way of enjoying it, everyone likes different things. Also... It's not a surprise at all, it's a well know fact and that's why there's "hero" moments or "breathers" just to enjoy the scenery in games. What's important to know is that without those gameplay sections the special moments mentioned in the article wouldn't stand out at all. Quote
Vilham Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 For a start I wouldn't consider any of those the most memorable moments of any of those games. So he liked some pacing sections in those games? So what? That doesn't make for a game, no disrespect to things like dear ester, but that game got fucking boring after the first 30 minutes. Its an interactive story, which on its own is fair enough if thats what your looking for, but games aren't just interactive storys, they have gameplay, its the entire point of the medium. For me most of the greatest games of the last 5 years had no story what so ever, they were sandboxes. Quote
Erratic Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 I mean, I still like video games when they are video games. It’s just that I love them when they are not. Oh fuck off. Taylor 1 Quote
FMPONE Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 I think the very best games do fulfill this promise of an experience over a game, but then there are games that are incredible that take this idea and toss it in the trash. Quote
Taylor Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 The most memorable part of The Sixth Sense was the reveal that Bruce Willis was a ghost all along. Therefore I hypothesise that everything else was both unnecessary and irrelevant, and it would have been much improved if they cut out everything prior and replaced it with twenty one five minute scenes of Bruce Willis realising he's dead. insta Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Hey but at least we visited their website to read their provocative blog and now we know they exist and now we will purchase their non-game a year down the road for our smartphone devices. Taylor 1 Quote
insta Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 When I start my own gamecompany I will write a blogpost denying that the holocaust ever happened, that will secure my future position in the top 10 iphone app list. D3ads 1 Quote
JeanPaul Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 This is very clearly a result of games with constant action and no ups and downs in intensity. This guy has probably just been jaded with ACTION ACTION CUTSCENE so much in the past few years that he forgot what proper pacing feels like lulz Quote
FrieChamp Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Yeah...that article doesnt provide any valuable, actionable insights. When I start my own gamecompany I will write a blogpost denying that the holocaust ever happened, that will secure my future position in the top 10 iphone app list. Have you considered recording a sex tape? Quote
Sentura Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) You are a creative mind, eager to learn, working hard, making a big game. You’re doing everything you should be doing. Right? No. You’re not. You just can’t see it. It’s natural. It’s expected. Your comfort zone is a very warm and happy place, and your scumbag brain does everything it can to protect it. ...oh, okay. Puddy Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 Have you considered recording a sex tape? ... in which you deny the holocaust? Quote
