Thrik Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 I think the real purpose of Curiosity was literally the experiment in and of itself, for Molyneux at least. I will admit that it was impressive how driven a fairly large number of people became to play such a pointless and ultimately fruitless game (because everyone was inevitably going to know the prize anyway). blackdog Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 [Peter Molyneaux video] Thanks to the fake echo, for the whole video I couldn't shake the feeling it was The Spirit Of Amadeus Arkham talking Quote
FrieChamp Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 I disagree, I think it's a bad idea to push someone into a creative position which will directly affect his pay cut. Will he decide interesting/fun rules, or decide to design rules that will get him the most amount of money out of the project? Perhaps that's part of the experiment as well, who knows But what am I saying anyways... I'm pretty sure I would be trolling everyone to the best of my abilities PS: The selection criteria is also super odd, were they just trying to gain some easy cash so they could make that god-game? Cos otherwise they might as well just have made a registration page and selected someone randomly, no? What was the purpose of Curiosity? His share in the profits is probably intended to be an incentive not to fuck up the game. Then again there are people out there who just want to see the world burn, so I doubt his powers will be all too big. But I'd be happy if Molyneux proves me wrong. As it stands it's (just) another great PR move by him. Quote
Warby Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 i have to say i think the "price" is actually way cooler than i thought it would be ... so ...good job. Quote
Pampers Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 lol if this was Gabe Newell doing this you would all be celebrating 2d-chris, Wail and Rick_D 3 Quote
Sentura Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 lol if this was Gabe Newell doing this you would all be celebrating i doubt it, at least not if i had paid for the game. but i guess it's about how generally trusting you are of random people to create a good game experience for you. i might get swayed if the guy actually does some good things, but since this is a prize of indefinite length it seems likely that at some point he'll get tired of it and just go nuts. Taylor Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Well, I doubt he’s going to be a designer designer. He'll probably have some back end to mess around in. If he could really screw things up, accidental or not, Godus won't be printing F2P money. blackdog 1 Quote

Thrik Posted May 30, 2013 Author Report Posted May 30, 2013 Nice Gamasutra article about the man we all love. Curiosity and the Church of Molyneux Quote
Thrik Posted May 31, 2013 Author Report Posted May 31, 2013 Here's a twist I suspected but it's good to see confirmation: after a certain period of time the overlord can be overthrown. http://www.wired.com...osity-molyneux/ Thus he has an incentive to not be a dick: he loses not only his power but also his royalties. Now that's what you call real consequences of dying in a game. I love Molyneux. blackdog 1 Quote
