Steppenwolf Posted August 4, 2014 Report Posted August 4, 2014 Carmack is a really good speaker. I could never just stand there for two and a half hours and keep talking and talking non-stop. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Valve added DK2 support for Half Life 2 today. This is like the best shit ever. The game is extremely fun in VR. And that's coming from someone who never even was a huge HL fanboy. The VR just adds so much to the experience. Interacting with life size NPC's, shooting at life size stuff, seeing the huge citadel in the backdrop etc. The dated gfx are no issue at all with the current screen resolution. It looks actualy pretty good. The biggest surprise is how well it works already despite it being highly experimental. Everything is functional and can be played perfectly fine. I didn't expect fps'es to work well in VR due to motion sickness. I played for around 1 hour straight, only feel a tad dizzy and have a slight headache. No comparison to the Tuscany demo that makes me feel queasy instantly as soon as i move. VR is the future! You heard it here first. Nysuatro, Sprony and FrieChamp 3 Quote

Steppenwolf Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 I can't play standing with the Rift. Makes my legs shaky. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 Nah nothing to do with strenght and dexterity. it's just that my sense of balance gets all messed up. Can't tell if i'm standing straight or tipping over. Quote
Taylor Swift Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 Gaming isn't really taken by the mainstream media because it isn't really innovating, look at music, new and original songs, hundreds maybe thousands released every day, gaming, I can't personally think of one truly original thing in the past 10 years or so, everything now is a copy of another game, oculus rift, basically a way to look like a tool, it is a cool concept however google cardboard seems more appealing, being as it is 'virtually' the same thing (see what I did there) however that can be made for under £5! I have a feeling gaming is dying, slowly but surely, it is an industry that runs on change, and that can't last forever, I can look at my xblive profile now, and most of my friends haven't been on in well over 6 months, and even still, that is only playing it for maybe an hour, I'm going to get a Wii u at some point, mainly because the xbone and ps4 in game keep freezing or not loading games, and also there aren't really any appealing games on either of those systems, the Wii u however, seems to show me that I still find fun in the games which don't involve brainlessly blowing the crap out of everything in sight, I used to enjoy GTA, then played 5 and fell out with the series, I used to like cod, but unlike everyone else realised they are all exactly the same game after cod 4, I now find fun in playing Pokémon, Mario kart and sonic colours, damn, I used to consider myself a gamer, I must have discovered real life! Sprony Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 A serious post by Nexus, I'm so confused right now or is this a whole new level of trolling? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted August 20, 2014 Report Posted August 20, 2014 Cardboard has no head tracking. It's only good for watching some 3d movies/pictures. Enjoy your motion sickness trying to play something on it. Quote

Puddy Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 I can't play standing with the Rift. Makes my legs shaky. I've never tried these kind of demoes but I must say I find the prospects of current gen movement controls + VR incredibly clunky and unappealing. VR displays are definitely getting somewhere, but trying to mix motion controls into it just subtracts imho, as you are fully immersed visually but hamstrung by wonky movement. Traditional control schemes and VR; sign me up. Quote
AtsEst Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) I can't play standing with the Rift. Makes my legs shaky. VR displays are definitely getting somewhere, but trying to mix motion controls into it just subtracts imho, as you are fully immersed visually but hamstrung by wonky movement. Traditional control schemes and VR; sign me up. Haven't tried any of the motion tracing controllers either (hydra/leapmotion that are supposed to have decent accuracy) but playing with a controller can be quite distracting, because you would expect a one to one translation of your movements. Pretty much the first think people try to do when they put and hmd on is to reach out and touch stuff and it is really sad when you get no feedback at all. Haptic feedback is probably going to remain an issue for a while, but a controller or mouse and keyboard don't tend to work that great if it is not a flight sim or something of that vain. Next prototype Crecent bay: 4k yay!(1440p it seems after all) maybe. And of course audio. Edited September 21, 2014 by AtsEst Quote
