Sprony Posted July 30, 2014 Report Posted July 30, 2014 Source: TLDR: WiiU doing a lot better. Nintendo has reported a loss for its first financial quarter despite an increase in Wii U sales during the three months ended June 2014. The company posted a first quarter loss of 9.9 billion yen (£57.2m), compared to a profit of 8.6 billion yen during the same period last year.Net sales totalled 74.7 billion yen (£431.6m), down from 81.5 billion yen a year ago. Nintendo sold 510,000 Wii U consoles and 4.39 million Wii U games during the first quarter. In comparison, it sold a mere 160,000 units during the first financial quarter of the previous fiscal year. The latest sales figure was also up on the quarter ended March 2014, when Wii U sales came in at 310,000 units. It shows that, despite wider money issues, Wii U sales appear to be gaining momentum. The system launched in November 2012 and lifetime sales now stand at 6,680,000 million units, less than PS4 has sold since Sony's console launched in November 2013, though believed to be slightly ahead of Xbox One, which also released at the end of last year. Mario Kart 8 was the company's top-selling Wii U game during the first quarter, shifting 2.82 million copies in just one month of availability following its May 30 release. Lifetime Wii U software sales now stand at 36.67 million units. Nintendo sold 820,000 3DS units and 8.57 million games for the handheld during the first quarter. The figure compares negatively to the 1.4 million hardware units sold in the first quarter of the previous financial year, but represents an increase on the 590,000 units sold during the fourth quarter ended March 2014. Lifetime 3DS hardware sales total 44.14 million units, while software sales stand at 171.49 million. Wii and DS lifetime hardware sales total 101.15 million units and 153.99 million units respectively. For the current business year ending March 2015, Nintendo still expects to make a net profit of 20 billion yen (£116m). Key upcoming software releases during the reporting period include Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2 and Captain Toad Treasure Tracker for Wii U, Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire for 3DS, and Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS. Nintendo also hopes that Amiibo, its upcoming range of NFC-enabled figurines, will have a significant impact on Wii U hardware sales when it launches in time for Christmas. Quote
FrieChamp Posted July 30, 2014 Report Posted July 30, 2014 I'm happy that "Captain Toad Treasure Tracker" is an actual upcoming game's title. Quote

Thrik Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 I really hope they tighten up how the new Zelda looks... like, a lot. I appreciate the scale but even compared to last-gen games like Skyrim it's looking really plain in many areas and way short of the teaser shown a couple of years ago. Surprising considering that this is meant to be coming to Nintendo's next-gen NX. It's painfully obvious how fidelity and scale are holding back the gorgeous art direction in some places. DrywallDreams Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Zelda is looking really flat. I want to see if it looks any different on NX or something, that has to be why it's not looking so hot, right? Like what happened with the water? Nintendo is really good at water! Some gameplay stuff seems not so great, too. I've never been a fan of equipment degradation, hopefully Nintendo can balance it well. The game could go either way with me in its current condition. Nintendo's response to the whole female protagonist thing is a bit disappointing. I'd be soo into a female Link or Linkle being in this game! Sentura 1 Quote
Thrik Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Yeah I was hoping they'd go a bit more all-in with the choice of gender, complemented by plentiful outfit choices — that'd put it somewhere close to being more on par with other open-world RPGs. I'm a bit bored of a blonde git in a green (sometimes blue or red) tunic. I'm optimistic that the NX version will look better. This is all running on a Wii U so unless Nintendo has suddenly decided to throw their usual artistic brilliance out the window I expect that greater hardware will bring it closer to what we saw in 2014 (skip to final minute): That seems completely attainable to me with more polish. Mazy Posted June 15, 2016 Report Posted June 15, 2016 I might actually buy an NX just to get a better framerate This is definitely the Zelda game I've been the most hyped for since Wind Waker, they basically turned it into a lighthearted FarCry game, I love it! -HP- 1 Quote
Izuno Posted June 16, 2016 Author Report Posted June 16, 2016 I am hoping to get a demo of Zelda tomorrow. It will be on WiiU but from watching others play it at the Nintendo booth today I have to say I am definitely interested to try it for myself. The demo lines for the masses were probably the longest of any game at the show. Quote
