Thrik Posted October 3, 2013 Report Posted October 3, 2013 That looks awesome Mazy. I love that Nintendo is just taking everything it's done with Mario and splurging it out into this insane 3D/2D hybrid. In some ways it could end up being even better than Mario Galaxy — which also mixed 3D and 2D sections but had more of the former, whereas this looks like the opposite. My only bother is some 3D bits like 0:40 look kind of crappy, almost like an afterthought. I hope that gets improved. As for Nintendo's visuals as a whole, I totally agree that Nintendo has always seemed to be at the top of its game when it comes to rendering stylised graphics. I think it's definitely a combination of technological skill, great art direction, and simply a whole lot of polish. They put so much effort into every last effect and detail that the end result is usually mesmerising. I mean, just look at a game like Wind Waker — the level of the art that went into that game in 2002 is bewildering, to the point where they didn't even have to do much to make it still look great in 2013. Even Nintendo's later 2D efforts like Yoshi's Island are timelessly beautiful. They have some crazily skilled people over there. Beck and -HP- 2 Quote
Thrik Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 The Wii U is very rapidly reaching a point for me where I can justify buying it just to enjoy the first-party games. Mario Kart 8 is out in less than a couple of months and holy shit, there's been so much stuff added since the last one I was into (Double Dash) and even though it's far from what its current-gen siblings can do, Nintendo's art as always reigns supreme: Practically jizzed myself when the Rainbow Road music started. Thrik Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 The new Donkey Kong Country game (with the original games' music composer back on board) looks stellar too: -HP- 1 Quote
Sprony Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 250 is still too pricey for me. If it drops to 150 I'll consider it. Quote
PogoP Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 That new Mario Kart looks absolutely gorgeous. Wow! Sent shivers down me spine with that music, kinda reminded me of Sonic Adventure on the dreamcast I actually have the new Donkey Kong, haven't played much of it though really. It seemed good, but me and the girl were playing it and the controls on the Wii Remote are awful.. You have to shake the controller to do a stomp, which is really frustrating. Thrik 1 Quote
Thrik Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 The Wii's DKC game was like that, very annoying to play actually. The Wii U's DKC: Tropical Freeze apparently doesn't require any shaking at all though, assuming you use the Wii U controller — which is a relief because playing DKC properly is extremely reliant on rolling. I quite liked Returns but it missed the mark IMO because of control issues, low resolution, and too much re-used music. The sequel looks far better and in many ways what its predecessor should have been. Quote
-HP- Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 The new Donkey Kong Country game (with the original games' music composer back on board) looks stellar too: Last night Target had a really good deal, buy 2 get 1 free. I got Mario 3D Land, Donkey Kong and WiiU Party and omfg, WiiU is the most underrated shit this gen, these games are crack! Mario looks so soft, DK is really hardcore and takes me back to the days we used to play shitloads of 2D platformers and Wiiy Party is just a joy to play with friends, hard not to laugh at the stupidity yet geniousness of those minigames. Erratic Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 It's a good little machine it just doesn't have a lot to play. Mario and DK are geat, even if 3D World is probably the weakest 3D Mario. I'd say the 3DS 3D Land was better overall. Still ridiculously well made game though. Tropical Freeze is great, start doing the time trials and you see just how well made the levels are. And you can actually do them this time since you don't have to shake the controller to roll, which straight up ruined time trials for me on the Wii version. -HP- 1 Quote
Minos Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 It is getting harder and harder not to get a Wii U To be honest, it's the only console that has blown my mind this generation so far lol FMPONE and Thurnip 2 Quote
Sentura Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 It is getting harder and harder not to get a Wii U To be honest, it's the only console that has blown my mind this generation so far lol Considering the other consoles are where the WiiU was a year ago it's not that surprising Quote
Beck Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Mario Kart is going to be a must buy for me. Looks gorgeous and I'm sure it's going to be a hell of a laugh with my mates and some beers Quote
Beck Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Video of most of the tracks (They don't show the whole track, just part of it) But dayum it looks glorious -HP- 1 Quote
FMPONE Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 This is how Nintendo does console launches these days. Mega lame reveal and first few months, slow build up to money printing machine status Thurnip 1 Quote
