xaveri Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 This map is based on the atmosphere and design of a real powcamp. The design is completely original meaning that is not based on other maps or a remake of any other powcamp maps. I will be submitting this map to valve for the HL2DM Competition. Hope you like it. mike-0 Posted December 25, 2004 Report Posted December 25, 2004 I like how it looks more outdoors-ish than most other dm maps. Great jorb! Good luck on the contest, hopefully this is a mood that valve was looking for. Work on the indoors. Quote
xempest Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 Brushwork / architecture and lighting need some work. I also don't like the drab of the colors one bit, it needs more life. You should continue work on it, it just needs alot of tweaking. Quote
Zyn Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 It's ok, but needs work, as xempest said. I don't think the POW-barracks had doors with meshed windows, cause it would make it very cold for the POWs during winter. It is a bit disappointing that you can't enter any of the barracks except one, but you can look inside all of them (bang, performance-hit!). A suggestion is that you open up 1 or 2 more barracks, and move a couple of the supply-crates there, so they aren't in stacks anymore and more scattered, plus make one or two of the barracks have a broken back wall, so you can enter from two directions. The RPG took me a while to find, heh, but why the second crossbow in such a hard-to-get-to place (jump from roof to train, to train to barracks-roof)? Also, you can shoot objects outside the walls of the map! Get those func_clip_vphysics into work! D: And where is the pretty cubemaps? And soundscapes? At least have some atmospheric sound. Oh, think as if the map was set at night... wouldn't you like some lightpoles and spotlights as a guard at a POW camp? I'm sure they wouldn't like POWs running around in the dark outside... That's all .. for now. Quote
xaveri Posted December 26, 2004 Author Report Posted December 26, 2004 wow, lots of suggestions. Thanks for taking the time guys. I appreciate it. Quote
xempest Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 And FFS, read the SSDK doc guide on phys_ props, don't DARE putting that many prop_ragdolls in the map unless you plan on KILLING the server. Quote

You're still thinking in an old fashioned way. Just use the physics and shoot the crossbow off the roof Quote
X-FacToR Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 Good luck, looks like you got yourself a contender if it plays like it looks. Quote
xaveri Posted December 26, 2004 Author Report Posted December 26, 2004 And FFS, read the SSDK doc guide on phys_ props, don't DARE putting that many prop_ragdolls in the map unless you plan on KILLING the server. The recomended ammount of ragdoll props in a map is less than 10. There are 7 ragdoll props in that map, 6 of them are mattresses. The matresses on the other shacks are prop_static so it really doesn't affect the load on the server. Thanks for the warning though. Quote
Taylor Swift Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 a bit gray-ish but it's cool! Quote

What if this map would be approved in a competition where gravguns are not allowed. What if this map is on a server with no gravguns. All items and weapons should be able to be picked up without the use of the gravitygun. Quote
Crackerjack Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 I think you map looks really bland... it has the occasional red from the roof but all around i dont see any shadows from the buildings or anything of that sort.. I also so think that building with wood texture everwhere in it is very unrealistic and generic... what happened to the supports... are we using the Force to hold these buildings up? Your buildings dont look realistic enough... and I noticed that you have a brick wall enfencing the whole map...... yes thats what POW camp in europe might appear as but.. in the some other places they use electrical fences... if you use that method you can create alot better scenery with the sky box... just a thought. Yeah, but the server I was playing on last night started losing it when there were two of us in the mattress room shooting them at each other. Quote
