General Vivi Posted October 23, 2012 Report Posted October 23, 2012 Yeah, the Boston offices closed down also. Quote
e-freak Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 Layoffs always suck - hope everyone lands save on their feet. That said, I don't feel very sorry for Zynga. Quote
Thrik Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 Yeah, I totally want to see Zynga burn to the ground but it's very sad that they don't even have the grace to do it in a way that respects their employees. I've been there myself (along with many MapCore members I imagine), given my marching orders and less than an hour to GTFO while half the company is laid off — you're pissed off as fuck, immediately worried about the future, and surrounded by equally depressed faces. Worst experience ever. Quote
Beck Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 Horrible news. It's sad how often we're hearing stories like this and it just makes it worse when they don't even give people notice. Hope they all land on their feet ok! Quote
Thrik Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 In the UK you usually at least get paid for the equivalent of your notice period (by law), but they can put you on 'garden leave' where you're escorted off the premises more or less immediately and don't actually work that time. In some ways this is a blessing as it means you can search for a new job, but on the other hand nothing hits you harder than going from having a normal day at work to being out on your ass within the space of a few hours. Since then I've learnt to never, ever rely on a job and let your skills/portfolio slide — you could need them at any moment. Even if you're not laid off, an awesome opportunity could pass you by but your portfolio isn't in a fit/updated state to show in time (happened to me). No idea how it works in the US, though. Probably not so favourably. Quote
Skjalg Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 I am having a hard time feeling sorry for the zynga employees affected. I mean, what were they expecting when they started to work for the devil? Quote
Sentura Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 gotta agree there skjalg, i doubt any of them were blindsided by the company's foul practices. Quote
Pampers Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 yees, fuck them for having a job, instead of walking around unemployed Quote
dux Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 A job is a job you daft buggers. Get a grip. Quote
Thrik Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 Yeah, to be fair I've worked for companies that aren't exactly ethically awesome but sometimes you just haven't got a choice, and can't afford to turn both the salary and CV/resume potential down. I have no real beef with the Zynga employees (apart from those who were all for ripping other games off), although I do think they'd be very wise to get out of there ASAP. Quote
Skjalg Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 A job is not just a job. Not when you work for the devil. If you got a wife and kids to feed, mortgage on the house etc, then sure. Get a job, any job would do. Except at Zynga. Zynga is just detrimental to the whole industry as a whole and if you have any long term plans of being a games developer then you shouldn't support them by trying to work there. syver 1 Quote

AlexM Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Anonymous is now targeting Zynga. They say they are going to release all their future plans. Here's my predicition; 'steal X game" http://techcrunch.com/2012/10/28/anonymous-is-going-after-zynga-for-mistreating-employees-and-is-prepared-to-leak-documents/ Quote
