Thrik Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 Yeah that does concern me. BF3 already seemed to be going very strongly, and it hasn't even been long since all its DLC finished coming out so there's still lots of life left in it. It could have potentially been something like TF2 where it gets added to for years to come, attracting new players all the time. Instead BF4 is basically going to kill or at least severely fracture the BF3 community. I've never seen good things come from releasing multiplayer-focused games in such a short space of time simply because community is such a big deal. Of course I also remember something happening with BF2 and BF2142, except that time BF2142's community died sooner if I recall because people were still too happy with BF2 and didn't feel the need for a new game (although BF2142 was in fact incredible). I'm still going to buy the final BF4 and will likely love it. I just still think it's a case of 'too soon', especially with so many people saying it looks overwhelmingly similar to BF3 — which isn't just a 'whiny gamers' thing IMO, it's the truth. It even looks like detail has been pared back in some areas to support the destruction. dkm and knj 2 Quote

PogoP Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Yeah that's the weird thing with the CoD series; the community seems to accept the fact that the game they play will only have a lifetime of 1-2 years, and then everyone except the most hardcore fans move on to the next game. It's kinda sad that we have to move on to next games so quickly these days, instead of supporting and evolving the current game. I imagine Destiny is gonna try to change this, apparently they're going to support that over a number of years. Quote
Thrik Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 Like I said Puddy... never seen good things come from it. Quote
dux Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Me and my friend who got fed up with the beta went to play some bad company 2, still a massive amount of servers. Still a great game. Tanks handle so much better as well. Bleh. TarrySruman 1 Quote
Thrik Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 Part of me is thinking I might be better off going back to BF3 rather than BF4 when I update my computer in a few months. I haven't played any of the DLC so it's probably like a whole new game, certainly no less so than BF4. I guess I'll see how active it is then. Quote
Zyn Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 BF3 is at this point mostly servers running just Nosehair Canal in TDM, Metro Meatgrinder, Davamand Peak, and Operation Firestorm. Quote
Beck Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 BF3 is at this point mostly servers running just Nosehair Canal in TDM, Metro Meatgrinder, Davamand Peak, and Operation Firestorm. Yeah it's really annoying trying to find servers now Quote
Thrik Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 Yeah OK fuck that then. All that awesome DLC and most of the community will now end up going to BF4 apart from the die-hards who will play on the same few maps 24/7. Quote
Beck Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 This server is decent but it's all the base maps with a few different game modes: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/servers/show/pc/b48ce25d-3bad-445b-88bd-6e42e372f942/Noobbude-www-tnD-Gaming-de-Not-only-for-noobs-Fast-1PL/ This one does all the maps and different modes: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/servers/show/pc/17e8f393-92cc-46a8-9255-2bb841499ee2/MixMode-Most-Maps-64-Slots-LETs-RoCK-www-sb-gaming-de/ Quote
TarrySruman Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 Me and my friend who got fed up with the beta went to play some bad company 2, still a massive amount of servers. Still a great game. Tanks handle so much better as well. Bleh. Everything felt better in BC2 I think. They made everything so much smoother and faster in BF3 to address the clunkiness of BC2, but I think they went too far and it encourages people to do a lot more run-and-gunning like fucking bullet ninjas. Also it felt like they took BC2-sized maps and put them in a game with mechanics designed for much larger maps, so lots of the maps became gigantic vehicle clusterfucks and were reduced to rubble 10 minutes into the match. Also the community was really bad in BF3 and plays exclusively instant respawn 50000 ticket operation metro 24/7. That game disappointed the shit out of me after how much I loved BC2 and the earlier battlefields. Beck 1 Quote
PogoP Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Been playing this a bit more on PC, and my god its so much better than on Xbox. Really enjoying it, and it looks stunning! Quote
Pampers Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 try the obliteration game mode that just got added, super fun! Quote
Zyn Posted October 11, 2013 Report Posted October 11, 2013 try the obliteration game mode that just got added, super fun! And DICE just added a 20 minute time limit to that mode. Probably because there's a bug that causes the bomb to spawn below ground after the tower has collapsed, so nobody can get to it and it becomes a stalemate. I joined a game to find it had been running for 2 hours because of that bug. Also, if you have low framerates no matter what, DirectX problems, or just want high perfomance with low quality, make a "user.cfg" file in the same folder as BF4.exe , and copypasta this: http://pastebin.com/B4H3QJ0L Quote
Beck Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 I guess this is one of those "Only in Battlefield" moments? Rick_D, PogoP, tr0nic and 1 other 4 Quote
