Thrik Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Rockstar closes Vancouver studio, expands Toronto offices Rockstar has announced that it has closed Bully and Max Payne 3 studio Rockstar Vancouver, but that all 35 staff have been "offered the opportunity" to move to Rockstar Toronto. “We believe a single Canadian team will make for a powerful creative force on future projects." While no staff have been made redundant, they now face a 4000km relocation across the country in order to take up their new positions. Shieeeeet. Not a good place to be living for industry dudes. ElectroSheep Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 So every West Canadian studios are closing or moving to East ? I know quebec area is actually the silicon valley of game industry but I really worried about people here Quote
Marvin.Star Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Yea, there has been quite a shocking amount of closures of late, especially out West. Safe travels to those relocating. Quote
Vilham Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Thats pretty terrible for anyone that needs to move, I don't think anyone would willingly move from Vancouver if settled with a family. Quote

mjens Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 That's a quite shitty situation where you can't make a choice, you're moving or looking for different non-game dev job at your place. It's not so bad when your family want to move to different town, change jobs or meet new people. The problem is most of the people want to have a stable job and salary. That part of Canada is really unlucky... Quote
Campaignjunkie Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 Hopefully those who couldn't relocate can go indie / Kickstarter / something Quote

Rick_D Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 all those living costs. and added stress etc. damn i'm sure glad they put that part in the contract about greedy publishers and fuckwit incompetant producers and managers ruining studios and killing projects, and forcing passionate creatives to move city or country every 2 years until they are burnt out and bitter enough to move into management roles! faggots Quote
