Hi!

We are working on Dniepr a Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 Campaign.

This is the Chapter #03: Warm Welcoming made by Ankou. (i worked on this chapter too)

Since your helicopter lacked fuel, you were not able to get to the rally point, but you still arrived safe on the other side of the Dniepr river. There,you learn that the rally point is actually Prypiat, a city that was deserted for years until it began to be used as a refugee camp. Since your crash zone is situated near the city, along the shore,you decide to get there on foot. Even with the tall grass and the fog coming from the river drowning your senses, you finally reach the city streets after using the sewers as a way of access. Sadly, the contamination seem to have also got here. Wooden barricades, sheets hoisted on the rooftops. All those signs make you understand that others have tried to survive here despite the virus propagation but have failed. It's then up to you to clear a way out of this town, a true relic from the past stuck in time.

Pripyat is a inhabitable, you can't stay in one area for more than a few minutes and some areas are fatal to go into at all and this will continue to be the case for 300 years!

Affects Will Last 300 Years

The 200 tons of hardened nuclear fuel and debris remains so radioactive that even today scientists cannot approach it. Some radioactive elements in nuclear fuel decay quickly; however, cesium has a half-life of 30 years, and strontium has a half-life of 29 years. According to scientific estimates, it takes 10 to 13 half-lives before economic activity and life can return to a contaminated area. This means that the total area contaminated by the Chernobyl disaster — 15,000 square miles — will be affected for the next 300 years

The exclusion zone (approx. 30km radius around Chernobyl) will have significantly elevated levels of radiation due to 137Cs for around 10 half-lives or 300 years.

I know how half life works, my point is that no where in Chernobyl will you die instantly. The kind of dosage you would get walking around the city would probably be no more than eating shit loads of bananas. It is simply a safety measure that the entire area is closed off. The only actual seriously dangerous area would be the actual power plant where the debris from the explosion will be, even then not the entire area would be dangerous, things don't become radioactive just because they come in contact with nuclear fuel, its the actual shards or pieces of the nuclear fuel that are dangerous.

Evenso it's only a game - better deliver a good atmosphere and a balanced gameplay. If everything would be real, it wouldn't make any fun at all :/

I never said that there is anywhere where you can die instantly, you're missing the point...

There are spots in Pripyat that have radiation levels about 3x higher than normal, and there are areas that are 50x higher than normal, plant life such as moss is especially lethal and you're not supposed to touch any of it when taking a tour. If you're visiting for a short time and you avoid the areas with lots of radiation you'll be fine, actually living there for a prolonged period is lethal.. not instantly but in time and you greatly increase risk of cancers. Radiation will be present in Chernobyl for around 25,000 years, although there are areas where people still live, It will take 300-500 years before the radiation levels in Pripyat will be safe enough to live in again and even then I doubt very much anyone will be calling it home...

So to be on the right tracks, I like it Bendix. It's far way brighter than the rest of the campaign I saw and I think it's good (official l4d maps aren't so dark, especially on the outside) and the building give me a strong STALKER feeling. I want to see more of this
