I have faith they will deliver, although I am not admittedly fond of the emphasis on combat, it made DS2 very frustrating.

These are perhaps the last things I care about in a Dead Space game. I will dub this Army of Lost Planet 2 until proven otherwise.

Is it still survival horror or more action oriented?

So far, it's definitely more action-oriented; there's Dead Space 2 style combat and pacing.

But I've heard that certain sections further into the game are geared more towards horror.
