afterwars Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Hello everyone. I recently joined the Mapcore group on LinkedIn and decided I would post my online portfolio here on the actual forums. I built the site from ground up without a template, so the quality will obviously be decreased. http://harkerdesign.co.uk I'm just wondering; is it suitable for a level designer, is it pleasing to the eye, and what I can possibly do to improve it. Please note also: Many of the images displayed there are somewhat outdated and dark-looking, I will be uploading fresh images in the near future. Many thanks! Quote
Warby Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 welcome to mapcore (class act avatar choice ^^) id strongly advise against using pdf anywhere especially in your portfolio ... but really everywhere screenshots all look "solid" but none of them "wow" me. Quote
Marvin.Star Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 screenshots all look "solid" but none of them "wow" me. I agree, the screens look like a place where something might happen; but I'm really not sure what exactly. Being someone who is familiar with Half-Life I can guess what playing the spaces might be like, others might not be able to; but perhaps some brief game play videos would resolve the situation. It would most definitely help to add any pre-production: flow maps, design documents, anything that can give us a sense of the space and how the player might progress. Also, instead of or in addition to the 'Contact' page you should have your email visible on every page. Perhaps put it in the header / banner. You may consider providing all of the contact info at the bottom of the pages as well. Quote
onji Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 It looks like you've got a good foundation for your folio. Like Marvin said some gameplay vids would better convey what happens in these levels, or even just an architectural flythrough could show us a lot more of what's contained in your work. Some people may actually take the time to play your levels, why don't you upload the actual bsps? Quote
afterwars Posted June 16, 2012 Author Report Posted June 16, 2012 Thanks for the constructive feedback. It's been very useful and I put it to good use - as I redesigned the site recently to the current new simpler grey one. I will attempt on adding images soon as with the BSPs. Again, thanks for the feedback. Quote
