Em' Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I officially quit the mod when I got killed by a door Hitchhiking simulator or frustration simulator ? Both ? http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/12/20/impressions-dayz/"These are all minor issues. The problems in DayZ standalone I eventually lost patience with all revolve around the zombies. First is the melee combat. It’s not so much that the animations are poor, but that the collision detection when facing zombies is so random. One hit from a zombie can screw up a character you’ve invested hours in, so when they simply walk through an axe swing and whack you it’s enormously frustrating." In the mod walking toward any door, rock, stair, ladder, or props was a way to die. I didn't experienced any death like that in the SA. Quote

I mostly agree with this statement. I can actually walk on rock formations now and doors just push you out of the way when they open instead of breaking your leg. However, I was on the top floor of a school today and some guys were below me. Me and my friends killed a few but one guy ran into the building. I ran inside to cover the stairs and as I was looking over the wall I somehow lagged or glitched through it and fell to my death three floors below. Quote

Sprony Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 Damn, even with the Steam Sale going on for days this game has not left the first top seller spot. Quote
Puddy Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 Played some yesterday but stopped after I found out that nothing respawns atm (which made scavenging extremely boring, as rotten bananas was the only thing you found). I just logged in now to see if the server perhaps had restarted. The absolutely first thing I hear as the screen fades in is someone reloading an automatic rifle. Jord Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 (edited) Finally managed to do some proper map reading and meet up with all of my friends. We've raided all of the northern military bases and airstrips and headed far north in to the uncharted new areas of the map. It's really safe up there with a huge supply of food spawns. We've all got full military gear and nicely modded m4s etc. If I die now I'll cry. Sprony Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Came across this on Reddit. Well, I installed DayZ, and now I bear a terrible regret. There I was walking around, not knowing what the hell I was doing. I managed to find water but that was about it, no food, no weapons, nothing. As I looked into the void, on the brink of starvation, I thought I heard a voice. Then I saw him. A figure come from the distance. He said, "Hey man, I can see you a mile away in those clothes, you need better gear." I replied that I hadn't found anything and was on the verge of starving to death. He threw me a box of cereal and said hope that helps. Before he left he said, "One last thing, don't trust anyone in this game. You got to look out for you and you alone." Then he left. As I devoured the cereal like a feral beast I realized as a noob, I had no chance. Then this stranger came back. He said, "Hey, felt bad for leaving you, if you want you can follow me so I can teach you the basics." I thought what the hell and obliged with his offer. He threw me a wrench and said use that as a weapon. Fast forward 4 hours and we hadn't found anything. Every nook and crevice had been scavenged and looted thoroughly. We manged to find water, but alas not enough food. We walked into an abandoned house, but there was something... unsettling about it, like a darkness was there, or about to be. We searched the rooms hoping to find food for we were both about to starve. Then as we were about to leave, we saw it. A glowing can of tuna. We went towards it and he said we could share a little bit. As we bent to pick it up, I stood behind him. I don't know what possessed me, but I said one thing to him, "Do you remember what you taught me when we first met? After a long pause, he sighed. I was already raising my wrench as he said, "Yes," in a disappointed yet accepting tone. As I started bashing his skull in I felt nothing but deep regret, yet it did not stop my madness. As my tears hit my keyboard and blood splattered over my character, I kept saying, "I'm so sorry." I don't remember unequipping the wrench but soon I found myself punching his lifeless body. The deed was done. I ate that can of tuna like a wild animal, right next to my mentor's body. But it was him or me... He had to die so I could live... There was no other way... I never even got his name, so whoever you are, if you see this, I am sorry. My character will live with this the rest of his life, however long that is. Quote
Seldoon182 Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 This game is really interesting. I should get a ride someday. Quote
KoKo5oVaR Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 I remember i once met a noob in a village, we chated a bit and i gave him food and a fireaxe, then i told him he should look for food in the village :"take all the food, you'll need it mate, it's easy to starve in this game" i said, and we both said bye and good luck. I went to the hill aside of the town and stalked him from afar while he was getting into every single house to find food. Then long minutes later once he had finished, i showed myself outside of the village, he went to me and...this is hard.. i asked him : "Hey mate so did you found any food ?" he said : "Yes i did" , "oh, brillant" and then.. i.. i dunno what happened, but i shot him in the head and i .. took his food and my fireaxe back. I felt so worthless, dirty and guilty at that moment. I actually thought the cops would knock at my door. dux, Puddy, Seldoon182 and 4 others 7 Quote

Pampers Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 played for some hours with a friend, love all the new clothing stuff you can wear. Only saw a couple of zombies though, food and water was hard to find at first, but as we went further north and found some cantines and can openers it wasn't such a big problem anymore. pics Quote
Beck Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) I don't find water a problem anymore. I don't even carry canteens with me. Basically if you use the wells in towns as you move between them you shouldn't ever get thirsty Use them until your guy says "I feel really full" or whatever. Me and a friend blowing up a petrol station outside Cherno (I'm the guy on the left). Hit the pumps enough times and they'll blow. They can be heard from the other side of the city which should scare a few of the newer players Edited January 3, 2014 by Beck Quote

Pampers Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 So we spent a looong time going up to the high level loot at the NW Airfield and then all the way back down to Elektro, went on the hospital roof and changed to a more popular server. Spawned right back into action, managed to pop two people on the school rooftop before I got popped myself. Some more pics from the hike up: Quote
-HP- Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Playing it for the first time. Learning curve is steep. I hate how the mouse handles as well. Played for like 30 mins, then got killed by a fucking douchebag. Quote
