robert.briscoe Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Hi all, So im shopping around at the moment for a good compact digital camera, by 'compact' I just mean something that can easily fit in my pocket. I've had a DSLR for years (which also needs upgrading) which is great but I'd really like to get something a bit more portable for vacations, birthdays, outings, more causal stuff etc. I realise I will probably not be able to get anywhere near DSLR quality by going compact, but i still want to go for as good quality as I can get, preferably something that also works well in low lighting conditions. I have a couple in mind, such as the Fujifilm Finepix X10/X100 or the Canon PowerShot S100, but was wondering if anyone here has any recommendations? I don't mind forking out on price (within reason) if it means i'm getting something that will last. Cheers! Quote
2d-chris Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 sony nex c3 with 16mm pancake lens is awesome, can fit in a pocket and you have the possibility to add more lens as you need them. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonynexc3 I have this camera, but with the much bigger 18-55mm, I can't recommend it enough, really good camera! Furyo Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 I have had the Panasonic Lumix TZ5, and it did wonders for me. I just recently bought a 550D, but I'll continue to use it. Quote
Minos Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Been using this casio camera for the past months, super cheap and small and the picture quality is better than average. Quote
insta Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 The iPad 2 has a front VGA camera and a rear-facing 720p camera, both capable of still images (but these are only taken at a low quality 0.3 megapixels) and 30fps video. The rear-facing camera has a 5× digital zoom for still images only. Both shoot photo and video in a 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, unlike the iPhone 4, which shoots in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. Unlike the iPhone, the iPad does not support tap to focus, but does allow you to tap to set auto exposure. Quote
marks Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Some of the Canon Powershot series are very, very good if you do a bit of digging. It's been a while since I looked into it though! Quote
⌐■_■ Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 A good friend of mine has the X100 and I've only heard positive things about it from him. He also takes it literally everywhere he goes. And apart from all that; he is a seriously talented professional photographer, so I guess that counts for few points too. Anyone interested: http://www.jarnokraayvanger.nl/ Quote
twiz Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 Yeah, I have the nex 5.. I use a nex 7 at work.. they are wondrous. +1 for the Nex. Quote
robert.briscoe Posted April 20, 2012 Author Report Posted April 20, 2012 Thanks for the recommendations guys, the Sony Nex certainly looks appealing, although i'm a bit concerned about the lack of a flash, seems like this would make it pretty useless in low light conditions, right? Lol insta, did you seriously just suggest buying an iPad?! Quote
2d-chris Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 it has a flash as an included accessory, but you have to attach it for when you need it for party pics or what ever Camera works very well in low light, theres even a few modes to make it easier to get hand held results in very low light (as seen below) hipster bridge for the win Quote
-HP- Posted April 20, 2012 Report Posted April 20, 2012 Lol insta, did you seriously just suggest buying an iPad?! it's insta, the trollmaster! Don't mind him, move along! Quote
