Hey guys,

So far I've owned the Canon D30, 10D, 20D, 30D 50D and the nikon D200 (in a 6 year lifespan) Now I've just sold my 50D and I'm thinking about either spending my money on a used Canon 1Ds or a Canon 5D. I'm not really considering Nikon, since I already have my own collection of EF lenses. Another thing: I can buy a used 1D (without the s) for exactly 300 euros (with box, extra battery and everything originally included). Is the 1Ds worth the extra 200 euros (considering I'm not into commercial photography and 123900238Mb file sizes)? I must say I'm charmed by the features the D1 has for the price albeit that 4.2 mp seems a little bit... primitive. Anyway, my next camera will probably be my ''friend'' the next couple of years since I feel that I must stop trying out all these different bodies :P.

Things I regard as important are ergonomics (being a big fan of the eos 1 bodies), durability, sensor size and quality (and since I've only owned APS-C based dslr's I'd really like to try full frame) and fast and reliable focus.

Things I disregard: mega pixel quantity, built in flashes.

I know this is a really specific question and I'm not sure how many experienced photographers Mapcore has, but I figure it's worth the shot :)

Are you talking about 1Ds vs 5D MK2?

If so, both are full frame, and are very similar, but the 5D has arguably the best sensor in the world. You can take noiseless photos at ISO3200, trust me I've taken many. Not sure about the 1Ds since I've never used any,

Also, 5D is smaller, and lighter (40% lighter, 850 g vs 1,385 g) and it's already quite big, that fact alone is a killer for me in the 1Ds.

there's many comparisons on the internet:

Probably Buddy would be a good person to reply, since he deals with diferent cameras at CGT, but I'm pretty sure he'll say the same, 5Dmk2 ftw.

As Helder said, what "Mark" of these bodies you wanna buy? If 1Ds is Mk2 then you should buy 5D, it's newer technology and it's better than 1D features in older body.

That's just your subconscious way of telling you, you would never have what it takes to own that camera

Thanks for the replies! :D

I'm talking about the 5D MK1 vs the 1Ds MK1, pardon me. And I'm actually more in love with the bulky 1 series design then I am with the lighter (and probably more practical) 5D design. I know it's probably just mindfuck but I want to have the feeling my camera is a tank. :P The extra weight also enables me to be a little tiny bit more steady while taking shots.

But damnit, now you got me looking at the 5D MK2 again.. :hurg:

Is the 60D actually that much better then the 50D? One thing that bothers me though, is their APC sized sensors. I really don't care about megapixel, I have no commercial plans. I just want image quality :( Now I'm considering the 1D Mk 2 (APS-H size sensor beats the APS-C any day of the week).

What kind of camera you shoot with Seir? :)

Those two are out of my price range unfortunately.. :( The 5D seems a logical step in the future though.

I have bought a Canon 1D Mark II with 51.000 clicks for € 425 euro's. The body.. it's... I have no words for it. This comes close though:

Thanks for replying sirs :)

I'm a gadget whore and I have 60D but if I would have some free cash I'd take latest Mark of 5D. Full frame sensor is most important, that's true but if you want nice image processor, all new stuff you need to get a small sensor camera with latest technology. I guess it's worth.

Yeah, APS-C sensors have technology on their side but still... Full Format is way more charming. I mean, that's about as close as you can get to analog photography with the advantages of digital image processing :)
