Buddy Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 Hey guys, I'd love to hear your TV's recomendations in the 46"-55" range, do I want 3D? Which brand/model? help.core Quote
Chimeray Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 I bought a tv last december, guess I can help you with that since I did quite a bit of research! I think the new versions are coming out soon though... dunno when it's the yearly refresh of models but I think it was March-April ish or something. So you might wanna look into those as well. First off: All tv's are shit and flawed. Great, awesome. At least that's what you're going to read if you go to those fanatic review websites... forumrage and all that. I bought a Samsung D7005 55" which seemed like a good price/quality for me. Flaws are that there's some "light bleeding" and "torchlighting", which are inherent problems to LED tv's. It doesn't bother me at all though, I don't see it by normal use and you can only see it slightly, if you really wanna... on a black background. I watched Tron on this TV (bluray) and countless of other movies I borrowed from the internet, was pretty pleased! I also play games and no issues whatsoever. If you wanna check those flaws, exaggerated since they like to crank brightness all the way up (which you obviously never do): Light bleeding: http://ic.tweakimg.net/ext/i/1248852668.jpeg Basically inconsistent brightness levels on the panel Torchlighting: http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg215/sc ... res=medium Light bleeding from the corners, looks a bit torchlight ish (although not really on that picture). But like I said, barely noticeable unless you're want to start nitpicking (and don't do crazy stuff like crank panel brightness to 100 and backlight to 20/20) There's some other versions of this TV but I got this one since you get 2 pairs of 3D glasses with it so that makes it the best bang for your bucks since those are quite expensive. The 3D is pretty good as well, some "double-lines" here and there but it's almost as good as going to the movies So there's that, the other one which I was looking into/got recommended is the Panasonic VT30. It's a plasma so the quality is better, apparently... Better blacks and colors. But it's heavier, thicker frame and all that stuff as well. And most of them seem to have a problem with the panel :S "green blob". Which put me off enough to not look into this one more even though it's supposedly the better one. Not a real fan of plasma's anyways... Green blob: http://www.avforums.com/forums/attachme ... n-blob.jpg There might be more TV's out there that might be worth looking into if you want a different size but these were the "hot" ones, at least for 55". Any questions, let me know Quote
2d-chris Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 anything Samsung, since they now basically own everything to do with LCD tech - plasma's are awesome but at 60 inch I bet they would break the table they are sitting on, my 42" inch one is like a fucking elephant Quote
cyberjunkie Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 Sony 55HX929/925 Samsung UA55D8000YR LG 55LW6500 - Best 3D (if you want it, personally, it doesn't interest me) Each of these models is available in 46 size as well, I think. Quote
Minos Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 I recently got a 55" sony bravia ex621 and I'm super happy with it. I paid veeeery cheap for this TV (1100 USD - the cheapest 55 by vizio or whatever was 1300) and besides being a "basic" TV (it has 120hz and some other shit though) it has everything I need. And most importantly: The picture quality is perfect. I also love how quick the menus are. I remember the menus being supper laggy on my old samsung. Even turning on the TV or changing channels would take a few seconds. This one starts up on the spot Fun fuct: This TV costs about 5000 USD in Brazil. I feel so important owning a 5000 USD at home!! -HP- Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 Projectors suck tbh, there's nothing like a bright nice, contrasty and vivid image from a big ass tv. Quote

My brother has a really kick ass projector and awesome surround system, but my friends 60" 3d LED tv is sooooooo much better. Quote

Buddy Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 Hey guys, sorry for not responding earlier but I posted this in the middle of an internet-less move Thanks for the feedback. I ended up with Samsung PS51D8000, should be here next week Meanwhile, any sound system recommendations that you could share? Quote
Chimeray Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Just wondering... Any specific reason you picked the plasma over the LED version? Quote

Buddy Posted March 18, 2012 Author Report Posted March 18, 2012 Just wondering... Any specific reason you picked the plasma over the LED version? The room is relatively dark so I didnt need the extra brightness and I love the refresh rate on that thing (and HP was an annoying mexican bugging me to get a plasma) ":1rd76o1p] Meanwhile, any sound system recommendations that you could share? That REALLY depends, what's your budget? My budget is pretty much "as much as it's needed for good quality shit" Quote
