[CE3] Beach Bar Environment

Hey guys!

Just thought I'd make a thread for a scene I'm working on. I'll update this regularly to show progress and to show you guys what I'm working on.

It's a scene based on this really nice piece of concept art by Tuomas Korpi. I'm not sure exactly what the concept was intended for, but I love it :D

Please note however, this concept is merely inspiration, and I'm not intending to re-create it exactly. It just spurred me on to create a similar environment!

I am also learning Cryengine whilst making this scene, so it's going to be a long process. My ultimate aim with this project is to properly learn Cryengine, and so far I'm loving it. It's such a powerful engine!

I wanted to just dive in and learn Cryengine and put down a few props I made, but I think I need to take a step back and plan the island out a bit. I'll hopefully detail a lot of this island and make it a really immersive, exploration-type environment that you guys can play.

Here are a few shots of what I have so far.

And a few props I've made so far:

And I started making a bit of foliage too. Still very WIP! Need to explore the CE2 foliage a bit more :D

I'll hopefully have regular updates here for you guys, but it is kinda hard to find the time to work after working 9-5.30!

Any crits or suggestions, fire away!

Holy shit that is an absolutely amazing concept! :hurg:

Good luck with the scene man! Lemme know if you want feedback on anything specific!

So far, really liking it, (Although the building is nowhere near the quality of the props yet) but I recommend you make placeholder geometry for your scene, give them a solid color and fill the scene with them, instead of finishing a prop and putting it there, then finishing another one, and so on. That way it will give you a better sense of not only scale, but composition, and color. it's very weird to have finished props in the middle of a empty environment.

Get cracking homes, I demand you finish this!

Totally agree there HP. It's quite overwhelming having so much to do with so little time, but doing a detailed blockout would be very handy.

Thanks guys!

So I need to sort out the wood texture. It was kinda thrown together last minute, but I will make it look nicer. I think I am going to do what HP suggested though, and block out loads of assets.

Here's a moped blockout I did tonight:

Edit - And a final screengrab with a few tweaks.

HP, is there a way to quickly grab screenshots from the editor, without jumping in-game? Print screen is easy, but you get the stats in the top right.

r_GetScreenShot 1

or e_screenshot 1, but this one is really buggy and I don't recomend it, only maybe for the final presentation shot, as it generates a higher res screenshot.

Also, to remove the stats, just put in the console r_displayinfo 0 (3 to put it back).

Another tip, if you want to see your level without the textures (As atm, you have some textured, and untextured assets, which makes it look weird) just put in the console: e_DefaultMaterial 1 (0 to put it back to normal)

I'm not sure whether to update this thread every couple of nights, or whether to just wait for big updates... In a way it's nice to see progress, but then it's kinda annoying to see this thread pop up all the time and people will stop reading haha. What do you guys think? :)

Here's a few more blocked out assets. Gonna start making some rocks and more vegetation when I learn a bit more about foliage etc in Cryengine. I want to detail the area around here, but I don't think the Forest assets will be useful for this. What do you Crytek people think? I've not really looked into it too much yet.
