AlexM Posted January 28, 2012 Report Posted January 28, 2012 Anyone else addicted to this game? I ended up picking this up after seeing it on the top of some game of the year lists. It's really addictive. It's sort of like a large zelda dungeon that's proceduraly generated every time you play. An entire game/campaign takes around 15-25 mins which fits great for me right now. The game is also getting a boxed release soon (in the UK only IIRC) and it comes with some art. I love the realistic interpretation painting of isaac in the basement. I'm ready to buy it again just for the bonus/box art. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 uh it's not a bad game but isn't this a bit ridiculous for a small flash game? Quote
AlexM Posted January 29, 2012 Author Report Posted January 29, 2012 Heh I hae to admit I'm surprised that it happened. There's some publishing company that's been doing this for smaller games. Terraria is getting a similar release. IIRC BOI is written in c++. I wouldnt be surprised if they reused parts of the Meatboy tech since they probably had it lying around anyways. Quote
ShockaPop Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I enjoyed The Binding of Isaac alot! It's really nice and "cute" game.. but still gross, sad and dark in a way, which I like. I'm playing it almost weekly at least for one playthrough. Now I gotta catch my progress, because when I reinstalled Windows few days ago, I lost all my items (I had like about 20 missing). As for the boxed retail.. I might actually buy it, because I like having a nice game collection some day. Quote

Nope, Isaac's flash, which is how they managed to make it in two months (or was it four? Maybe that was Terraria). Isaac being flash is also why the controller options is "Google Joy2Key", to the great bemusement of people who expect their $1.25 indie roguelikes to meet their every demand with a curtsy (shitheads, in other words). So, how the hell are they filling out not one but TWO discs for this release? What, HD video of random people playing the game? The game itself is only 216MB. Quote
FrieChamp Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 uh it's not a bad game but isn't this a bit ridiculous for a small flash game? I have to agree. Seems over the top to me as well. Quote
selmitto Posted January 30, 2012 Report Posted January 30, 2012 I find this game very addictive. Because of its randomness, the game always seemed fresh to me. There's a great variety of items you can get. They not only will change your appearence for something grotesque, but also will give you some interesting powers. The ability to explode bombs near certain walls and find secret rooms is great, as well as doing pacts with the devil to exchange some lives for superpowers. I think I have something around 5 hours of gameplay, and I still haven't reach the last chapter, because when I play I like to explore all rooms instead of just going through the chapter boss. And, this game is fucking hard sometimes. Quote

I believe the second disc is to give to a friend. Interesting that they did it in flash. If they already have an adequate 2d c++ framework for Super Meat Boy I wonder why they didnt reuse it. Maybe the coder from SMB wasn't involved in this project. I mean if you have a decent framework flash isn't a whole lot faster than c++. Anyways that explains the frame drop I get on a quad core Quote

Jetsetlemming Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 Yeah, Isaac was made by two guys, only one of which was on Team Meat, Edward McMillian, the art guy. e: But separately from the direct development of the game they also got the same musician to score Isaac as well, so three guys I guess. AlexM Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Posted January 31, 2012 Ah gotcha. Soundtrack was great too btw Quote
