Erratic Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 Remember when good sci fi also had tits? I do. This seems to have neither. And you need at least one. Quote
D3ads Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Jennifer Lawrence had nice tits in X-Men first Class.. but they were also blue so it could have been enhanced for the film. Quote
Furyo Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Went to see it last night. Pretty uninspiring overall. Total washed down lowest common denominator "summer" blockbuster production. Check your brains out before going in. Half assed plot, no real underlying message/political stance; the fights were pretty good as they at least went for brawls/survival fights over choreographed 15 minutes long unbelievable sequences. Everything this movie does, Battle Royale does best. And please, the cast of good looking teenagers in every movie to please the "twilight" demographic needs to go. ⌐■_■ 1 Quote
Erratic Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 no real underlying message/political stance Now I want to see it. Quote
Izuno Posted March 26, 2012 Author Report Posted March 26, 2012 We were in the theater for our 2:55 pm showing...and at 2:50 the lights flicker, then the emergency lights came on. A staffer from the theater came in and told us the entire block had lost power due to the rather mild rainstorm in our region. Thus, I wasn't able to see the movie today after all that. So we are seeing it this Wednesday...guess I'll find out then if I like it or not. Quote
General Vivi Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 Went to see the movie with Furyo but didn't really have the same feelings as him. I enjoyed it for what it was, nothing to sing home about. My gf enjoyed it though ⌐■_■ 1 Quote
Izuno Posted March 29, 2012 Author Report Posted March 29, 2012 So we saw it tonight. And yes I read the book (dur i started the thread). 1) I thought the casting was excellent. Every actor seemed at worst good enough but most of them were great choices. 2) I didn't like the shaky cam cinematography. Not every scene had that (thankfully) but the those that did didn't need it. Shaky cam does not create cinematic intensity. Shaky cam is a means to cover up how a cinematographer has no talent for cinematography. Must. End. Now.!!! 3) The movie did an okay service to the book. It's hard to get every detail in there but since the book was such a page turner it tends to make you feel up close and personal with everything in it, especially since it is told in the 1st person. I think the bigger issue is the concept of the book, while not totally original, is still an original take on, um, the concept in the book I think they could have done a better job with the writing to get the emotional intensity/tone just right, and in some parts they did a great job but in others it was totally flat. Overall, I liked the movie and felt it captured the spirit of the concept enough but it wasn't the spectacular awesomeness I was hoping for but not expecting anyway. Hey, beats the fuck out of whichever Twilight movie I was forced to sit through a DVD rental of. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 Hey, beats the fuck out of whichever Twilight movie I was forced to sit through a DVD rental of. That doesn't say much Quote
Puddy Posted April 21, 2012 Report Posted April 21, 2012 A bit late to the party but just watched this earlier today... and loved it. It was just a very, very solid film. Quote
⌐■_■ Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Battle Royale far outpwnz The Hunger games but I´m glad to have watched it it's a gf friendly version of BR tbh Quote
Puddy Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 I may have overstated how good the first film was. I had zero expectations and found it entertaining! Also.... J-Law. Dayum. And only a few months younger than me! Quote
Sprony Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 Beggars cannot be choosers Puddy! Just watched the trailer for Battle Royale. That looks much better than this girlie shit. If I'm forced to watch this crap than the wife is forced to watch Battle Royale with me Quote
blackdog Posted July 22, 2013 Report Posted July 22, 2013 Seen the movie just a few days ago, a waste of money (making it) and time (watching it).I guess I'm not the only one who watched it for J-Law... aww <3 Quote
Sprony Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Based on the comments I watched Battle Royale yesterday. It was typical weird Japanese cinema but actually pretty good. Lame ending though. Quote
