Can't wait for this. Despite not really being into the whole high fantasy genre, Lord of the Rings remains probably my favourite trilogy of all time. While I respect others' opinions, I believe anyone who doesn't love those films is an uncultured heathen deserving of being lined up and shot.

Getting to delve back into Peter Jackson's Middle Earth for a couple more films is something I never thought I'd get, and that I'd just have to rewatch the LotR extended editions for the rest of my life. I was getting worried with all the development hell stuff going on that major cast changes would be made, etc — but it really does look like everything and everyone from before is on board and the feel of the trailer is perfect.

That bit right at the end made me go all ':D'.

So, I'm sure we've all heard but The Hobbit is officially three films now. Only several months away from the first, omg. Still awaiting the final trailer though so here's the old 2011 one (from before most of the film was shot) plus some newer promo pics:

I'm pretty much OK with the extra film. The Hobbit is only one book, but there's a lot of stuff in it that's described briefly and could easily be expanded into much more significant scenes. Not only that, but the Lord of the Rings appendices and The Silmarillion provide huge amounts of backstory behind events and characters in both films' worlds which could easily be used to enrich both The Hobbit and LotR.

Something that's kind of just occurred to me is when I read The Hobbit as a kid it was much 'lighter' than Lord of the Rings — as in, not so full of depressing death and destruction, more humour. I'm guessing Jackson's making this film retain the serious tone of Lord of the Rings, and if he starts bringing in stuff from the other sources I mentioned above (which detail how Middle Earth was completely obliterated in the past, where all the 'gods' and wizards came from, how the kingdoms rose and fell, the other crazy stuff going on in the world at the same time, etc) it's going to get even darker. Kind of happy with that, though. :derp:

This is probably the last time we'll ever see Tolkien's amazing world portrayed by these actors and with such an incredible team behind it, so you know what? Bring it fuckin' on. :-D

Can't wait for this! December can't come soon enough!

I'm happy with it being a trilogy, and it will sit proudly next to my LotR extended trilogy when it comes out on blu-ray :D
