knj Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 This, but it's kinda funny, becouse first four games, Dante had only in common his hairs color - white. In every game he had very different character. And now when he has black hairs, everyone is sooo fuck pissed Quote
Thrik Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 The fanboy response to the new DMC has been nothing short of absolutely pathetic IMO. Just... ugh. Pathetic. I played the demo and thought it was awesome. Quote
Chimeray Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) I'd agree that the white hair bitching was unwarranted. But I played in the store for a bit and it felt very underwhelming, dumbed down even (but perhaps there weren't enough moves unlocked, was the start of the game). I might eventually buy it though, was too short of an experience to judge it yet. But from the little I've seen I'm not really convinced yet... Edited January 30, 2013 by Chimeray Quote
Taylor Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 It is completely disingenuous to turn all fans criticisms of the game into the strawman “his hair isn’t white” when the vast majority of complaints were neither about that nor Dante’s characterisation. There were many legitimate concerns about the gameplay changes, Unreal not delivering 60fps, and PR disasters like “I don’t give a fuck [what the fans think]” or “Bayonetta is too showy.” All people knew for a long time was negative changes like the removal of styles or the (falsely) rumoured cooldown on guns, and gameplay footage was showing a lot of weird behaviour like Helm Breaker hitting something twenty feet above it. I’ve played the game now and sunk a lot of time into it. I’ve completed it on “hard” and I’m about three quarters through Son of Sparda, the first unlocked difficulty. It is a very enjoyable experience and a lot of the predictions by impassioned fans about how terrible it would be, which I will reiterate were deeper than hair colour, turned out to be completely off the mark. It’s true it’s a very different beast than the previous games and much easier (if you can beat DMC3’s first boss on easy you will faceroll everything I’ve played so far) but that’s obviously an intended goal. I would also say it does a lot of things better than the original series like having interesting combat arenas instead of mainly flat, convex boxes. Height variation, death pits and environmental damage are there and work intuitively without you ever dashing off a ledge to your death. Even accepting the more casual approach there are some problems such as: scoring being broken, strong enemies made through defence rather than offence, and everything about Vergil - but it’s really nothing to get worked up over. Ninja Theory did a fantastic job, most enraged fans have actually changed their minds about the whole thing, and it’ll be interesting to see where they or the series go next. Quote
Froyok Posted January 31, 2013 Author Report Posted January 31, 2013 (edited) Damn, that game is awesome. It's like drugs for me ! I have almost finished it in Nephilim (the maximum difficulty level you have at start) and for someone who never play this type of game (like me) it's a very good introduction. Some screenshots while I was fighting : Edited January 31, 2013 by Froyok Quote
knj Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 So i've played 2 first "missions" last night, and as not a BIG DmC FanBoy, i love the game, love the design, not that gothic, victorian dark look, but more loose modern look (at least for now), and the Now Date is really cool, he doesn't give a fuck (i know the old Dantes was simillar) but still this one is getting to me much more. When in limbo the design looks sweet love the idea of 2 worlds (limbo and real world) i'm playing on PC for the first time not on PS system, and it plays really well tbh, basicly it is FUN - what DMC should be ! Zyn Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 Welp, only have one difficulty left to beat: Hell or Hell, but I don't think I'll bother with that for a good while. Or maybe attempt it by being a jerk using the Super Dante perk that unlocks after you've beaten the game on "Dante Must Die" difficulty. It gives you unlimited Devil Trigger but your score gets a 50% penalty. You can still progress with it, and who cares about the leaderboards anyway since they are filled to the brim with russian cheaters. Quote
Taylor Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 I've just started DMD. The game has a great system for what it wants to be, but I’m not sure it’s rigorous enough for a mode where you die on one hit. With 50% score it might actually be possible to see a rank under A. Quote
knj Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 I'm having a blast with this game !! I absolutely love the design of limbo and how it affect the game play, SICK Shit, and also this game have just great fck bosses ! Quote
dkm Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Just played for 3-4h but I'm really digging it so far. I've played all the previous DMC and I can honestly say I don't get where the fanboy hate comes from. It's not _that_ different from the previous games and it plays really well. I have to give it more attention, but so far so good knj 1 Quote
knj Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 I havnt played only the 4th DMC, but this one is the best of the series TBH ! Quote
