Chimeray Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 Stopped using Paypal as well. I always thought it was some sort of "Bank" but it´s just a business. They can block your account and you can´t do shit unless you go to court. Not the same rights apply as with a bank :/ They froze my account once until I provided a copy of my ID, front and back... You should never have to give that info to "a company..." in the first place. Then they said the ID wasn´t enough and I needed to show some bank statements of the bank account I was using. Very shady imo... Some banks don´t even put the required stuff on bank statements so I´ve heard that some other people just couldn´t get their money back... All in all it took around 2 weeks since they asked something, then wanted something else after...
Thrik Posted December 6, 2011 Author Report Posted December 6, 2011 Oh yeah I totally agree guys and only provide PayPal as I know some people prefer it (there's been a fair few donations through it), although to be honest the same can be said of any site like this that holds your money — Google Checkout included. Almost exactly the scenario described in the link on the last page has happened to me: Google froze my account due to me accepting donations despite not being a registered charity, and it's taken a good week or so of emails to get it resolved. Google has been very courteous at least. Basically if I'm to continue taking contributions I need to stop describing them as donations, and instead put up a 'Buy' button that allows you guys to essentially buy a subscription. In half an hour or so you should be able to see a Google Checkout button again, except this time you need to choose one of the available amounts. Sorry to those who've wanted to help but are averse to PayPal, and a huge thanks to those who've continued to contribute. I won't get into naming names as I don't want to put people on the spot but I had a particularly nice contribution the other day. My advice is to get money out of online systems like PayPal and Google Checkout as quickly as possible. There's absolutely no benefit to having it sitting there rather than being withdrawn into your bank account, and it means you're always at risk of the money being frozen. Of course if you use it as nothing more than a payment gateway (you can now simply feed PayPal your debit details and such without making an account) your risk is pretty much non-existent which is what I always do.
FrieChamp Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 I donated. Now where's my Hurg action figure???
Skjalg Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 cant you have a cart system and we can order stuff like 1$, 5$ and 10$ stuff? that way we can add together our own sums
dissonance Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 wish i'd known more of this before i decided to use paypal; those are some seriously shifty policies they have my donation did go through, right?
Thrik Posted December 6, 2011 Author Report Posted December 6, 2011 Yes, thank you! Skjalg, I've updated the OP with a Google checkout that covers a whole bunch of prices, however I'm not sure how to make it so you can adjust the quantity. I'll see if there's anything I can do when I can.
Rick_D Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 thanks for putting up google checkout - i was able to donate now. personally i don;t give a fuck about how shady paypal is, i have never had a problem with what i use it for (used to use it for steam / subscriptions to snuff porn websites / etc), but since moving countries i can't keep my original email and change payment details without a huge amount of hassle, and paypal's solutions are pure shit. they can suck a fucking dick.
Mazy Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Finally~~just donated, already feel awesome (¦)~~~hope it helps Thrik~ Also yeah, I've disliked Paypal from the very first time I used almost 10 years ago, though that was for different reason than their business practices. This is the first time I've used Google Checkout but it works like you'd want it to, which is more than I can say about the last time I used Paypal.
Thrik Posted December 7, 2011 Author Report Posted December 7, 2011 Thanks guys, I love you so much. There is a special place in heaven for you! mzzzzl~~
knj Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 So donations before that shit with google checkout, went through? or do i need to do this again ? btw - that Hurg action figure is sickkkkk, i want one !!
Thrik Posted December 7, 2011 Author Report Posted December 7, 2011 Sorry yes, all donations from before have gone through from what I can see. :derp:
