Sentura Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 so i'm in the process of trying to get an arcade stick, and i'd appreciate if some of you had experiences/reviews of the different ones, and which ones would be suitable to be a first timer's arcade stick. it's for ps3 (for use in ssfivae and later sfxt), i'd prefer it usb wired rather than wireless, and it would be awesome if it could be used for mame emu's on pc as well. thanks in advance Quote
Minos Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Sorry I can't help you on this one Quote
Taylor Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Well, I can go through the sticks I own. Mad Catz Street Fighter IV Arcade FightStick: This is what most people in the ‘scene’ carry around. It uses Sanwa parts and makes an effective bludgeoning weapon, but very had to justify how much it costs. Hori Fighting Stick 3: And this is what I actually use. I actually don’t like the Sanwa stick very much because I mainly use my arcade stick for shmups, so I’m used to feeling the corners and it jutting back neutral when I let go. Datel Arcade Pro Joystick (PS3/Xbox 360/PC): This stick is kinda crappy and I found myself dropping a lot of simple combos on it. I brought it because it works on all modern platforms and is cheap (has actually gone up a bit on amazon but I recommend you shop around anyway). I also like the way the guy who is totally not Ryu in the artwork (blue gloves and headband). Cutstom: I’ve just recently picked up a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5YeFLIB0OI, which cost me an undisclosed large amount of money, and basically turned up broken. It's all been a lot of faff. Arcade-In-A-Box are meant to be good but I’ve never used them myself. Most 360 compatible sticks should work on PC AFAIK. Quote
Sentura Posted October 30, 2011 Author Report Posted October 30, 2011 i was actually thinking hard about the hori one, but it seems to have very limited availability. does the tournament edition have wired access? Quote
Taylor Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 They are all wired (or at least the versions I have are). The Madcatz TE has a panel on the back to stuff the wire into so it probably won't be in shots. In theory you should be able to make your PC accept the Playstation 3 controller (which is a faff) and then plug in the fightstick, but I couldn't get this to work myself. I actually forgot about this Qanba EightArc: The triple platform one is sold out but there's PS3 & PC ones left. Don't get too excited when you click the link: that's the postage reduction! Haven't used one myself, but someone linked a review. Quote
AlexM Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 I have the Madcatz TE and the Hori The Hori is perfectly fine to use. Unless you are REALLY into fighters you'll be fine. It's a great deal for 50$ and it works great with emulators. There is a guy who made a custom windows firmware for it too for better compatibility. By default windows looks at the joystick as a hatswitch which doesn't play well with some emulators. It;s fixed so pressing the home button changes its mapping. Quote
AlexM Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Here is a link to the firmware/instructions for getting the Hori stick running on windows. http://community.us.playstation.com/thr ... 0&tstart=0 edit link is broken there. You can find a working copy by searching fs3drv on google. Quote
Sentura Posted October 30, 2011 Author Report Posted October 30, 2011 thanks guys. now if i could only find a place that would actually ship to denmark... Quote
madgernader Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I've got a PS3 madcatz TE fightstick, like everyone else said its great, but its pretty spendy. Its USB and it works on the PC no problems (I have SFIV on pc and BlazBlue on PS3) Quote
Sentura Posted October 31, 2011 Author Report Posted October 31, 2011 since the old hori stick is apparently discontinued, i went for this: http://www.hori.jp/us/Products/PS3/ps3_fsv3/index.htm it's gotten solid reviews and people seem to think it as an ideal first timer stick, so i think it's the right choice. not sure how i'm gonna respond to the 6 button layout, but ill take it on like a boss. thanks for your input everyone!
