saltydog_NM Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Hey All! I have been meaning to post my portfolio here for awhile now, but I am just not getting around to it. I would love any feedback that you guys can give! I am currently working as a simulations software scripter but still work on environments and levels on the side. There are some static environments, playable levels and games up there for you to see. Let me know what you think, harsh and critical feedback is welcome! http://www.noahmjohnson.com Noah Johnson Environment/Level Designer Quote

saltydog_NM Posted October 24, 2011 Author Report Posted October 24, 2011 Ill def read that article and look at my website objectively with it in mind. Thanks for the link! Do you have any thoughts personally? Quote
Grimmsorg Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Hi there Noah, nice to see your portfolio. I've got quite a few things to comment on so I'll do it in bulletpoint form so that its more direct and easier to read: - I quite like your header, its nice and bold, kind of reminds me of Kane and Lynch - In my opinion its too heavy on the text for a portfolio website (images say a thousand words) - I don't really know what I'm clicking with text links, give us thumbnail images so that were drawn into having a closer look - I don't think you need a search box - I'd probably make your home page the level design tab, show users your work straight away - The Intuitive Grounding could probably go on your CV / about me page rather than a brand new page Quote
saltydog_NM Posted October 24, 2011 Author Report Posted October 24, 2011 I'm going to make those changes tonight! You are right about it being text heavy, its definitely something I should avoid. I'll use that image idea for the links as well. Quote
Serenius Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Home Page - This should be your portfolio showcasing your work, not a link to your blog. Level/Game Design Tabs - Combine these two as your home page and just have your levels and games grouped together. Good portfolio examples: Furyo - http://www.froughol.com/ Corwin - http://www.clement-melendez.com/portfolio/ Quote
saltydog_NM Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 You are right, I think that would make much more sense to have them all grouped under one tab. I don't want any of my work to be hard to find, so I will have to include images beneath the header to give people a better way to seeing the games and levels. Quote
