Steppenwolf Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 That's really fucked up. But how could i be surprised? I remember that their leader stole some of my Insurgency tree props back when the game was still a HL2 mod called Incoming. Before i risk to get sued for such a claim, the proof is still out there: http://halflife2.filefront.com/news/Incoming_Source_Another_Media_Update;28077 Quote
arhurt Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Now I think that they stole the design for it, but not the actual model/textures. It could have been that one of their artists was tasked to reproduce the asset and given your model sheet as the reference, and he copied it 1:1 instead of using it as inspiration, or that the artist in question actually decided to copy it and hope no one would notice. I prefer to think its case 1, in witch case you guys should contact them and ask that they remove the assets or pay you royalties... if they refuse then go further down the rabbit hole. Quote
Warby Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 yeah they just used it as reference its not actualy the same model ill admit it i have done this kind of shit too ! ( sometimes you just see something that is so awesome you want to have made it ^^ ) Quote

Apparently someone who works for them, from the comments on that vid: We at Spiral Game Studios are an extremely honest and transparent developer. We often show segments of our game when they are very early - or at least much earlier compared to most developers. We do this for one big reason - to involve and interact with our fans. Of course preliminary builds and pre-alpha game builds will feature placeholder content but that is one of the draws when being so open and sharing with the audience and community. Yes, that is most definitely the Natural Selection 2 armory by design. But there was no theft. That was created by a former freelancer artist, Daniel Doerksen on his spare time based on the NS2 illustration. It was a self-exploratory project for him as he was inspired and intrigued by it for a portfolio piece. The piece in question is of course a placeholder and is only being used in pre-alpha builds until we finalize the design of our resupply stations. We have since edited the footage so that the main focus will remain on the game itself - rather than a single environmental prop. Quote
arhurt Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Consider it a compliment then! Or let them place it in the game somewhere as an easter egg lol. Quote
