The new X-COM game

Recommended Posts

So this new X-COM game from 2K Games Marin looks SO FAIL! FUUUU!! Why do they do this for us X-COM fans. emot_shakehead.gif

I remember when me, my brother and a couple of ppl made an X-COM mod for Half-Life 1, we were first with smoke grenades (Just before CS), ranks and xp (FU Battlefield and Modern Warfare!). It was so fucking great but Infogrames owned the rights for X-COM back then and shut us down. :(

Makes me wanna mod again, just to make 2K Marin feel bad for sucking so amazingly hard. X-COM needs to be reborn properly. Shut this mother effin game down.

It's different. But it's not like I wanted. Same name, totally different game. Still I'll pick up the demo, maybe it's a good game...

When we were making Call of Juarez: Cartel, there was lots of comments like "it's not western anymore, fuuuu" and yep, it wasn't western, people had bad thoughts about the game just because of change of genere. I think poeple don't like changes and new XCom is a good example. Some things just won't make it cool and can hurt the title. I'm still waiting for tactical/economy X-Com like parts 1 and 2 were... <3

They never said it would be XCOM (for one thing they even tried to rename it X-COM), but a shooter based in a loose interpretation of the XCOM universe.

Problem with fanboys is that's the kind of message that falls on deaf ears since "they're touching on our beloved franchise and ruining it". Thing is, if you're 2K and you're sitting on this license, you'll try and make a new game that somehow uses the franchise even loosely, since you can at least have some free marketing in the process.

2K doesn't know how to make an XCOM game, that's not their business. So they don't even try. And that's a good thing. We'll see whether they can make something appealing enough to those with no prior knowledge of XCOM to outweigh the few fanboys that cry wolf

I'm a huge fan of the original. I love the simplicity of it and the turn-based strategy style game play.

After watching the trailer for this new game, in my opinion,... they should not have named it XCOM. Yes, they kept SOME elements from the original (like the research stuff etc.) but from what I've seen everything else is different except for the fact that the game revolves around an alien invasion.

I understand that from a business side it makes sense to use an already existing and very popular franchise and try to profit from the popularity and cult status it has but at the same time it makes me a little sad that they seem to have strayed so far away from what the original game was all about.

It still looks like it's an awesome game and I will probably buy it because I'm really into this whole alien conspiracy stuff but it's too different to be called XCOM in my book.

It's not like they couldn't just, you know, make a strategy game. It's not even like it's a foreign genre to 2K, they publish civ...

Its like naming Assasins Creed after Deus Ex. Just wrong. Or making a new Syndicate set in 1850´s wild west. Wrong wrong wrong wrong. Does´nt matter whos fault it is, you don´t name it X-COM if it aint X-COM. This aint no X-COM fooo shoo.
