I'm liking the new cbble (though it's looking a little rough and blocky), but come on,

"The old version of de_cbble featured many dark and enclosed areas, which added to the restrictive feel of the linear paths and hallways. In the new version we’ve opened up the edges of the map to let the sunlight in. We also got rid of some ceilings, allowing players to throw flashbangs and other grenades over walls before attempting to capture the bomb sites."

Valve just wanted to show off the cascaded shadow maps again, didn't they? :P

overpass looks mega-sick too, Valve really knows how to set a great theme.  I just know the competitive nuts will whine about the maps though.  There's some great posts on the forum already:

Cbble seems veery nice. Overpas... tooo... however i am starting to worry about it because of one line from blog post:

"The design of Overpass benefited a great deal from our experiences upgrading Mirage.".

OFFICIAL MIRAGE IS JUST AWFUL.

This is kinda sad actually. We already had competitively viable balanced version of cbble called de_forge, but for some reason instead of graphical overhaul they've decided to waste their time doing what's already been done

Looks ugly n totally crap :S

Just hope it doesn't require bravo pass or something smile.gif

i got some more from reddit

I can't see overpass being played competitively, from the screenshots it looks like its going to be filled with all kinds of weird shit

I bet the new de_cbble will be more CT sided than before. Congratz you just made 100 more camping spots for CTs.

Look at that mid, holy shit what a cluster fuck. Why there needs to be 1000 benches, trees, rocks, bricks and all that kind of shit, that I will probably hit when strafing into a fight, Why all this useless things? The same thing they done with train, while on classic(ps classic is 1.6 gtfo with source) maps you had so much space to move, now you will hit a rock, a tree, or more rocks every 2 feet. I hate Valve for clustering the maps like this. I hate what you done with train, I hate what you done with inferno banana, and prob will hate cbble. Why you need to make all corridors so narrow and tight, with no space to move. If 5 guys rush one place it get awkwardly close.

You are doing the same dumb mistake you made with mirage, you managed to take a balanced map and made it CT sided because dumb shit like this. Now I know cbble is CT sided but the only things need to be done for it is just port old cbble add 1-2 entrances to B, and do your crap reskin to fit whatever you want. DO NOT CHANGE THE MAP with useless shit you always bring. You messed up with mirage, and you don't even bother fixing it, you just throw it down our throat, please stop, leave cbble, dont port it.

Looks like piranesi imo. Judging from their job in mirage these maps would be useless and noone will play them. At all.

That upgraded de_cbble looks horrible. please no, not!

But in my eyes just a bunch of dimwits, makes me cringe...

I don't have any nostalgia for Counterstrike maps (CS:GO is the first CS game I've played) but I personally prefer the community made version of Mirage to Valve's version of the map. It's just a lot more readable. Cobble remake Valve is doing looks like a big visual improvement in the sense of relating the architecture to human scale, but hopefully one of the lessons they learned from Mirage is to ensure the readability of the environment above eye candy.
