-HP- Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 The Silent Hill HD Collection arrives this September/October complete with higher definition graphics and darker darkness. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... paign=auto I'm a sucker for this HD collections and I'm getting them all. And this time around it will be Sillent Hill 2 Remake! Can I get a fuck yeah d3? Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Hardly seems worth calling it a "collection", when it's just 2 and 3. Both of which you can play on PC, right now, in whatever resolution you could want, with a gamepad. Quote
Minos Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I wonder if it's impossible to port PSX games or something. They are skipping the first one, just like the Metal Gear HD collection... Quote
ElectroSheep Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I have all Silent Hill but I'm not interested by this Quote
Thrik Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I think it's more a case of the PS1 ones look like ass and there's no way to really sell people on them being a HD upgrade — people are already often showing disappointment at the fact a lot of HD re-releases have just been upscaled last-gen ports, never mind last-last-gen ports. A lot of last-gen games still look kind of good when upscaled and given some lighting tweaks (a la God of War Collection), but PS1 games look absolutely awful. I know Kojima himself said the ancient look of MGS1 is what led him to not include it, and that he'd prefer to do a proper remake if he were to re-release MGS1 — although you have to ask why not just use the GameCube remake which IMO was superb (and directly overseen by Kojima contrary to popular belief; the cutscenes were originally perfectly reproduced like the rest of the game but Kojima himself wanted more theatrics), or at least use it as a template. Probably licensing issues but they could still (sneakily) use a lot of the assets I imagine. Also it's worth bearing in mind you can get MGS1 and SH1 via the PSN Store, marketed strictly as a re-release rather than a HD version. I just discovered that Twin snakes is apparently fully playable via emulation now, so it can be enjoyed in HD at fucking last. Probably as close as we're going to get to an MGS1 HD re-release in the remote future. Quote

It is pointless IMO, if it is just SH 2 and SH 3 (Silent Hill 2 is great, SH 3 not so much tho) there is no point buying it. For me Silent Hill is just I and II. The rest of the frenchesie is just looking for money on some good IP. Quote
D3ads Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 ":1iv85ovz]Can I get a fuck yeah d3? Not really.. no. They're not enhancing it enough to warrant buying again, plus they're supposed to be redoing the voice acting completely, which I really am not sure about... having anyone else other than Guy Cihi doing Jame's voice is going to be really odd. Best off waiting for the new game, Downpour, which looks to correct most of the mistakes made with Homecoming. For me Silent Hill is just I and II. The rest of the frenchesie is just looking for money on some good IP. Woah woah... that's taking it a bit far, three is absolutely brilliant.. sure it's not quite in the same league as the first two but it's definately part of the Silent Hill Mythos and it's a proper sequel to the first game don't forget. -HP- Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 Isnt The Room a pretty good sequel too? In the topic of HD Remakes; I also put Splinter Cell HD remakes on pre order for PUSS3. Quote
ElectroSheep Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 It's just like everyone forgot Origin but it's probably the closest from silent hill 1's style SH3 is probably the most scariest, disturbing and well made SH. Quote
D3ads Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 ":omspxpxk]Isnt The Room a pretty good sequel too? It's a good game, but it's not really Silent Hill. There are some good nods towards the SH games in the storyline in-directly if you look hard-enough though. SH4 was supposed to be a new IP, but the publishers felt it would be too much of a risk so they went with a fourth game unconnected with the other three. Origins looked good in the walkthrough I watched, but I never played it because I don't have a PS2 or wii and PS3 slim doesn't read PS2 discs Quote

Taylor Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I’ll buy this but I’ll rant about it all the same. It doesn’t really sound like a collection if it’s two games from a series containing around seven. Silent Hill 2 also had a small extra scenario called Born from a Wish in some re-releases and, although not great, it isn’t mentioned. The console version of Silent Hill 2 is one of my favourite games and I’ve played it a ton of times. Very well executed story (and I’m not one for this side of games), it is really good at portraying James’ issues in the game itself, excellent pacing and this great sombre, depressing atmosphere. The PC version had some really strange decisions I hope don’t make it into the collection; like having all the secret 2nd play-through weapons unlocked from the start, so before you even pick up the first ‘real’ weapon you’re armed with an instant-kill chainsaw. And quicksave. Silent Hill 3 is great too and surprisingly different, the atmosphere is aggressive and heavy, and it's more full-on. The character does have some inner turmoil but you know what it is from the start, whereas she doesn’t... Providing you’ve completed Silent Hill 1. If you haven’t I imagine it’s a bit confusing at times especially in the room before last. SH1 really should be included because SH3 is not really stand-alone. The Room was another game they added Silent Hill ties into late in development. It has some really good moments in it but halfway through they pull something that ultimately made me stop playing. You have to play every area through again. As an escort mission. With a randomly occurring invincible enemy who can one-shot you instantly from off-screen. Quote
Erratic Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Silent Hill 1 is too good for that collection. Quote
Jake Gilla Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I also will probably get this, but I would have liked if they included The Room, or at least the PSP Origins, which makes since being a PSP exclusive. Quote
