I've never really listened to much Winehouse, but after hearing her stuff played constantly the other day I have to admit her singing and music is superb. I wrote her off as another one of those female pop icons whose music is largely uninspiring, but she's actually the real deal. Was, rather.

It is a sad waste of talent and I think the amount of venom lots of people have shown — especially all over Facebook — is very unnecessary. It's not even been confirmed it was drugs that killed her yet, even if it was very likely. And even if so, she was a very troubled person who also dabbled in self-harm, starvation, etc. A lot of people end up in situations like that and it's always saddening to see, often brought on by something emotionally crippling. Nobody means to end up as such a wreck.

Reminds me of how a lot of people immediately started calling Heath Ledger a drugged-up mother fucker immediately after his death, because the word 'drugs' was used in the reports of how he died. Except it turned out they were pharmaceutical drugs and suddenly everyone looked like assholes. Of course it's more likely to be drugs in Winehouse's case, but still.
