Sentura Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 On the subject of DLC vs sequel, the line is drawn at the size of the addition and its retail price. Consequently its release date too. was that true for the half-life 2 episodes as well? arguably it's in the same category since it's sort of an expansion. Quote
Rick_D Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 it's a blurry line and there is no real answer. look at red orchestra, they made a mod, won some money and then polished it and made it a retail game. but then look at TF2 which was a paid for retail game that now has most of it's content made by the community. look at the ship, which was a mod in every traditional definition, then sold, then remade and sold again. look at minecraft which took an idea built from XNA codebase, remade it in java, released it as a paid for product. the line between modding and indie and full commercial AAA titles has become blurry just because of the way the industry has evolved. there is no real definition because you can always find something that will break the rules. the fact that there isn't a specific path to go down is exciting to me, you always have options. as for expansion vs dlc, that has changed along with the expansion of the internet. an expansion pack circa 2000 was practically a sequel by todays standards. dlc can also range from a single weapon, a character reskin, or even what was once called an expansion pack (as an example, the 'back to karkand' dlc being released for bf3 features new levels, vehicles, and weapons, along with much more, it's comparable to the bf vietnam expansion released for bf1942), so things change, the lines blur. it is not possible to truly define these things anymore, and it is up to the customers to decide whether they see it reasonable to pay a dollar for a shotgun (homefront) or whether they feel 20 dollars for a 4 hour single player campaign (hl2 episodes) is acceptable. Steppenwolf Posted July 25, 2011 Report Posted July 25, 2011 http://www.newworldinteractive.com/index.php?page=games Since the new company website is up now i guess i'm free to proclaim that we will work on a revamped Insurgency as a standalone commercial game. Lethal Enterprise was also officialy announced today: http://www.crytek.com/news/new-world-interactive-announces-a-licensing-deal-with-crytek-for-cryengine-3 Quote
robert.briscoe Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Congrats on getting a Source license, (I know it aint easy!) it's awesome to see another Indie Source Engine game on the scene! Quote
FrieChamp Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I knew about the C3 licensed title, but also a full game release of Insurgency? Sounds ambitious (and expensive)! I'm sure Jeremy knows what he's doing though. Congrats! Quote
Jenn0_Bing Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Yeah, congrats guys. I look forward to the Insurgency release, sunk a good few hours into that mod back in the day. Your new project also sounds intriguing, will keep an eye on it. Quote
D3ads Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 remastered version of the game, focusing on the "Arab Spring" that is currently taking place in the Middle East. but you're gonna add the Croatian campaign too, right? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 but you're gonna add the Croatian campaign too, right? I doubt it. Quote

Minos Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Do you need a new doorframe now then? lol Quote
D3ads Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 More arabian combat games! Just perfect. Yeah this.. I mean I understand that it's your baby and everything but there are literally hundreds of games about US vs middle-eastern armies/terrorists.. It's really boring. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Lethal Enterprise will have a completely different scenario. But the development of it doesn't finance itself. Quote
