SamCom Posted May 21, 2012 Report Posted May 21, 2012 Well duh, he forgot to yell at the player to press the 'Hold On' button. Seconds earlier (1:48), he'd just hauled himself up a ledge, so it can't be his lack of upper body strength. Quote
insta Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 @MrDubstepaholic It's called cinematic experiences. The experience wouldn't be as engaging if you weren't locked into the environment like this. Just because Farcry has improved doesn't you need to bash on it. Pdate92 11 hours ago Quote
FrieChamp Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 It's like having someone yelling in your ear how to play. "Shoot that guy! Yeah, right there! Take a right!" They don't even try to frame it in a way that would make sense, like someone guiding them from afar. Ugh no people on the radio commanding me what to do please. That has always been the easiest solution and has become such a cliché in FPS games. Quote
Thrik Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 This feels like a bit of an attempt to grab some Uncharted fans, as the sequence is almost completely ripped out of Uncharted 3 (except Far Cry's effort is way less epic and impressive) and has the same kind of ultra-directed cinematic gameplay you'd expect from that franchise. Not that that's a bad thing in itself, but you have to do it really well like Uncharted to get away with it and you need to deliver an excellent script too — that was not the case here, with repetitive/annoying voice acting and a few weak attempts at Drake-esque witty comments during the action. Not even close to writing the game off as earlier gameplay footage and developer interviews retain my interest, but this isn't the kind of experience I want from a Far Cry game. Quote

I agree, but at least it's more logical than the dude muttering to himself. The best would be not having anyone yell at the player, and trusting them to figure out things for themselves, and keeping guidance a little more discrete. Also not writing off the game, heavily scripted sequences like this might just be a small part of it. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted August 30, 2012 Author Report Posted August 30, 2012 Farcry 3 is looking pretty sweet! Quote

FrieChamp Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 I very well might pick this up! :derp: Quote
Puddy Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 The voice-over is pretty shit and the game looks a bit, well, wonky at times. But it looks fun and sandboxy. Probably gonna get it. Quote
