Travel Visas

I guess this is a good place to ask.

So my friend wants to visit the UK for a week. She lives in Belarus so obviously needs a visa. Is there anything I can do to help her get one, or is it a pretty standard affair or her just walking into the visa office and them giving her a tourist visa? Someone mentioned to me that you can send a sponsorship letter which they can use in getting a visa. I dunno any of this so thought I'd ask here. Maybe someone can tell me what's what.

isn't that usually just handled "on the fly" when you go to the airport? like you get a stamp in the passport with a "best before date" (3 months)?

Your friend can also apply for her travel visa online: http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ApplyNow.aspx

You can write her a 'letter of invitation' mentioning her date of arrival and date of departure to back up the claim that her stay will be temporary. Temporary Visas for the UK are valid for up to 6 months.

Hah that's funny, a friend of a friend is Belarusian, though she's lived in London for many years now.

Does she speak Russian or Belarusian? It's funny how only about 15% of the country speak the latter language...
