KungFuSquirrel Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 Hey guys! I just wrapped up a new portfolio design and thought I'd toss it out to the crew here. http://button-masher.net/ It's not quite the single-page hotness all the cool kids are doing, but I've always liked grouping similar projects into their respective categories and to keep things from getting too bloated. That said, I removed one layer of depth from the site by putting all the information on the main category listing instead of requiring you to click through to each individual item. I'll probably keep tweaking the info bar on the right in the main content listings to find the best arrangement of all that text, but overall I feel a lot better about this one than my old one. Quote
Vilham Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 Personally I like it the level of detail. Ive been told thats a bad thing hence why I didn't do that but your site certainly pushes me towards doing a similar setup with mine. Quote
tlovemark Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 I like the way you have it organized. My only gripe with it is that I wish your buttons for images/video/downloads were a bit bigger. I like to have that stuff really big and obvious, but then again, I'm in the process of shrinking the buttons down a bit on my site. Quote
Mazy Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Cool stuff KFS. Was initially a bit put off by the mega headers dividing each level but I got used to it fairly quickly. You need a rainbow unicorn themed map on your portfolio tho, so much dark brown and grey stuff Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted May 27, 2011 Author Report Posted May 27, 2011 Interesting that you mention that - the big header images were one of the most important things to me in the redesign... I wanted to get some big in-your-face visual elements as part of the browsing to replace the smaller thumbs I've been rolling with for the last few years. Now to see about some more colorful stuff... General Vivi Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Looking good man, but the 5 second attention span kid inside me couldn't be bothered to click on all of the thumbnails. I feel like if everything was just presented on the page in full, I would stay there and look through everything. Still though, that being said I did browse through all of your pages and liked the layout. I just wish you had more images up in my face instead of me having to click on a bunch of thumbnails. Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted May 30, 2011 Author Report Posted May 30, 2011 You can scroll through the shots by clicking left/right on the screenshot popup, or use the mousewheel. The video will also pop up after the shots if I have one ...I wish I had a better way to indicate that, though. It's super slick but not obvious. Quote
wilco Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Hey KFS, Good solid layout, with easy to navigate portfolio pieces. My one and _only_ gripe would be that because the text is small (wouldn't change that) and the content area is fairly wide - it makes for quite a large edge to edge reading focus - I think to combat that you should do a couple of things. You could frame the page the little bit, to stop the illustration of content bleeding into infinity (white on white), or just some typography may just be enough - hope the below makes sense. http://www.joeangus.com/ss/kfs-example.jpg Hope it helps some mate Quote
