Puddy Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I think that something like that would be cool. Though I would prefer to do it a bit after the current one is completed and after the official SDK has been released (as to avoid bugs and general fiddling around). Also, I think one should limit the maps to one category. Quote
Skjalg Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I'd love some more portal 2 maps One chamber each, then make a playable map pack out of it. Quote
Serenius Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Love the Portal 2 map idea. Been planning on fully diving into Source just for that purpose. Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted April 28, 2011 Author Report Posted April 28, 2011 Post-SDK, I say let's do it! We could line up a pretty beefy pack with the crew we've got here I like the idea of getting together a core-specific content pack - we could have some of our dudes work on that in the lead-up. Also, someone should paint hurg-themed murals to hide in secret areas. Any other votes for or against the speedmap challenges? If that's something people are interested in, I wouldn't mind compiling a list of some possible themes to have available after the Door Challenge wraps up. Quote
Campaignjunkie Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Post-SDK? You mean in 6 months? Pffft. That's no fun. Smell ya' later. Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Post-SDK? You mean in 6 months? Pffft. That's no fun. Smell ya' later. Hey, look at that, an SDK release What do you guys say, Portal 2 MapCore pack after the Door Challenge? Quote
Puddy Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Sounds good, but allow for some relaxation inbetween! Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Sounds good, but allow for some relaxation inbetween! Of course, we'll keep the usual break in between. Should give everyone some time to relax and get up to speed with the Portal tools. ...though I still want to try and run a weekend challenge in between Quote
Campaignjunkie Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Post-SDK? You mean in 6 months? Pffft. That's no fun. Smell ya' later. Hey, look at that, an SDK release They released it early just to spite me! Clearly. What constraint for the Portal Challenge? 1024^3 would work great, but we don't want to do it again? Or maybe someone could make a reflective cube model replacement that resembles the MapCore logo, and your map has to use that cube somehow... and stuff? Quote
Puddy Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 I'd say the portal 2 challenge doesn't necessarily need any rigorous restrictions. It's simply supposed to be one testchamber. And fun. (and possibly need to include som mapcore specific content) Or? Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 Door Challenge voting is up! viewtopic.php?f=57&t=16237 Great work, everyone And major props to generalvivi for helping put this together; I can't speak from experience, but it looks like this was a fun one! So, two things. I'd like to try one of the old-school weekend challenges in about 2 weeks if any of you guys are interested. I was thinking we could put together a list of HL1DM themes (Xen, Surface Tension, Lab styles, etc. or maybe bust out the Nightwatch textures or something) then draw one out of a hat at the start of the challenge. I was thinking it could run Friday/Saturday and we could get together and play the levels on Sunday. Anyone in? We don't even need a big crew for these small ones - just 4-5 guys cranking out levels could be a good time. Second, if we want to go with a Portal 2 round that turns into a MapCore community pack, I think we should put a little more advance planning into it - give people time to prepare, figure out how to arrange the levels and link them together (if we do), etc. How do we decide ordering, any level-to-level progression, etc. I know some of you guys are already cranking with Portal 2, it'd be great if you could start pooling together the resources we need to get everyone up to speed and ready to roll. I think this could be a really exciting one since Portal 2 is still so fresh and the community is just getting rolling on it. Might also be great for drawing some new blood to the Core. Quote
ElectroSheep Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 I'm in for both of them but... please wait June 17th, I have to work on my end of year project before this day (end of school, soon.. finally..... niiihahahhhohohuhuhuh ) Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted May 23, 2011 Author Report Posted May 23, 2011 I'm in for both of them but... please wait June 17th, I have to work on my end of year project before this day Right now I'm thinking the mini-challenge (if we do it) would take place June 3rd to 5th, and the Portal 2 pack would run June 17th to July 17th.
