Serenius Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Anyone have recommendations? I used to read Gamasutra for their expert blogs, but it seems to be a hit-or-miss affair nowadays in regards to quality or relevance. There are a few good ones I follow, like Applied Game Design, The Game Prodigy, and Full Bright. Always on the lookout for more. I'd be in favor of even turning this thread into a compendium so others can find good online resources and articles. Anybody? Bueller? Bueller? Quote
OhSnap Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Started to pull out my list, but realized most are on this page anyway. http://csyvertsen.net/?page_id=242 If you use RSS feeds, you always get recommendations based on similar content. Quote
arhurt Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 I like the lost garden, he usually puts a lot of effort in each post, so while it may be scarce, it definitely is good. http://www.lostgarden.com/ Quote
syver Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Depends on what kind of writing you are interested in, I mostly read blogs related to MMOs. For game criticism I would go to BrainyGamer or check out the incredibly useful critical-distance.com every week or so for a compilation of blog posts. The fullbright blog has ended but still has a lot of interesting content if you haven't read it yet. Considering the links you have provided so far, I would recommend: click nothing and design reboot which i just recently rediscovered (thought he stopped writing). you might want to consider subscribing to this magazine as well Started to pull out my list, but realized most are on this page anyway. nice to see the site being put to use. Gloglebag Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 David Sirlin has a lot of good things on his blog, although all he has done the last year is promote his own games. Quote
Taylor Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Rather than paraphrase stuff he's read on SRK. Ugh, Gamasutra. Only unmentioned site I'd put forwards is Auntie Pixelante, though sometimes the content isn't worksafe. I generally find myself reading websites like sonichurricane.com, which aren't about design in themselves but just passionate players analysing the games they like, which I find inspirational. I'm surprised there's so few decent, practical design blogs out there. Quote
Taylor Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 Bumpity bump bump. Someone linked me to this blog a while back and I've found it a very high quality: http://altdevblogaday.org/ It's not just design but it all seems like a decent read. I think this is one my favourite articles: http://altdevblogaday.org/2011/06/11/respecting-design/ Quote
Sentura Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 taylor, i forget - did you do programming as well? Quote
Taylor Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 Nah, I dabble, but I can't/don't do it professionally. Quote
Campaignjunkie Posted June 21, 2011 Report Posted June 21, 2011 I don't know if it's "good" but don't blame me for a bit of self-promotion: http://www.blog.radiator.debacle.us Quote

I also like that I don't need to keep dictionary.com open in a second tab to understand it (which can't be said of most designer blogs). Quote
