Bluestrike Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 My first impressions? Played as a Rogue and combat felt pretty cool and playing as a mage is probably not the big advantage it was in DA. Textures on characters look improved. Cons: I got a bunch of loading interuptions during the ingame cinematics. Menu's clearly have been done with consoles in mind. I hope the game isn't going to be too linear. Quote
Mazy Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Never played the first Dragon Age, but this one just didn't do that much for me. Like Mass Effect, its the conversations and stuff that's the best part of the game, but unlike ME2 where the combat is somewhat decent then it's just a constant button masher here, at leash with the Warrior I played. Do you play on console? If so get it for PC! combat was the best part of of the first one because it was super tactical and quite the opposite from button mashing. You're supposed to pause and micromanage every half second of real time. Quote

You're supposed to pause and micromanage every half second of real time. I have heard that, which is why I actually never bothered with the first Dragon Age, since I didn't have a machine that could run the damn thing, and people made the console version sound like the plague. Don't know how it was in the first one, but here (on the 360) it seems like micromanagement is limited to switching characters and all this is happening in real time. There's also just something about the fiction, it seems über dry from the demo, doubt I could get through the entire game. The "funny/prankster" reply option during conversations is pretty cool tho, basically took that every time Quote
2d-chris Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I'm just going to buy the full game, I hate demos they always leave me feeling meh Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 There are good demos and bad demos. I haven't gotten Darksiders because its demo was long as hell, the entire first dungeon, and I don't want to replay that at all. Max Payne's demo, though... I have the Dragon Age 2 demo installed and I haven't played it yet. Of course, I've had the Batman demo on Steam installed for months now without launching it. Not sure why, just... doing other stuff I guess? Quote
Serenius Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 The original Dragon Age on PC was one of those games I still have a hard time figuring out exactly what made me like it so much. [*:2feusddd]Combat was pretty good, but had quite a few flaws, and could get pretty repetitive once you figured out how to trivialize the encounters. [*:2feusddd]Played more like WoW with pause functionality than anything else (played as a warrior on the main character). [*:2feusddd]Graphics were decent, but would have been amazing if the game had been released 3-4 years earlier. [*:2feusddd]Writing was really good, with some interesting albeit fairly cliche lore and story. It was really the characters that shined more than the world itself. [*:2feusddd]The best moment in the game was halfway through the Circle of the Magi Tower. Nothing else came close. [*:2feusddd]The Dragon fights, while sparse, were pretty amazing. The Awakening expansion was pretty good, but lacked the character depth the original game had. I'm hoping that's not going to be Bioware's new MO since they did the same thing with shallower characters in ME2. Keeping the fingers crossed that DA2 will pick up the shortfalls of the first game and deliver yet another awesome western RPG. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I utterly hate how there is no tactical top down view anymore. It's really hard to keep the overview in battle. I was afraid of that when i first heard of it. Guess i will wait with my purchase until there is a mod that brings in back. Quote
PogoP Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 I really didn't enjoy Dragon Age... I think it was really boring and didn't suck me in at all. World felt very cliche. Quote
Jetsetlemming Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Played the demo as a rogue. Liked it more than Dragon Age 1, especially the difference in how the Rogue works: I started out as one in DA1 and found it really bad compared to the other classes and restarted as a mage (and then still didn't play much past Lothering). Of course, the way they take away your starting skills after the inquisitor lady calls BS spoiled it a bit... I earned them back EVENTUALLY, though. The game looks worse than DA1 though. Feels like the textures are lower quality and there's less special effects going on, though that last one could just be because the demo's all in drearily lit places. The textures thing really got me though. In the first five seconds of the intro video they focus the camera on a torch on the wall as the dwarf is dragged forward, and the wall next to the torch looks like something out of Deus Ex. I never noticed anything like that happening in DA1 or ME2. Also not being able to pull the camera back farther was really annoying, though I'm sure if they don't include it in the release, it will be modded in shortly thereafter. Also goddamn, giant fake tits everywhere. Even DA1, which got flak for how all the women looked, wasn't as bad as this. Sister boobs, magic old lady boobs, gypsy boobs... sheesh! Overall, I had fun. Still not going to buy it, though. Not paying $60 for a game, no way. Quote
Serenius Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 What? Americans like boobs, and they buy the most copies. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted February 24, 2011 Report Posted February 24, 2011 Nothing wrong with big boobs imo. Quote
