Saw Upstream Color the other day (the new movie from Shane Carruth, the Primer guy). I really liked it, I found myself captivated by it like very few movies can do these days. Still not sure I entirely understand everything of it either, but it was good. Oh and it doesn't really bear much resemblance to Primer, so don't expect that.

Once again, a movie that makes me envious for those who grew up in the 70s

Mark Strong delivers even in small portions, restaurant scene is cool. And the girl who impersonates Ruth, man <3

Probably only of interest to those who're in the UK and/or into health documentaries, but this is probably the best of its kind I've seen. It's a flagship BBC documentary so the production quality is unsurprisingly excellent. The minute-long intro pretty much sums up exactly what it is:

It goes into everything from hospitals to morgues to sex change clinics to road accidents to people living out their last moments with cancer, and shows practically every part of the UK from busy cities to remote islands that have one doctor for thousands of people — basically the whole healthcare system. How the fuck they managed to figure out the logistics of filming all this in one day is beyond me.

Unlike many documentaries of this type it retains a sombre and non-dramatic tone at all times, which makes some of the harrowing stuff that happens all the harder to watch. Will happily admit the mighty Thrik was fighting back tears during some episodes.

Saw the new Star Trek. It was pretty cool.

It saddens me that I will never explore space. I probably won't even be able to watch other people explore space... :(

Battle: Los Angeles - Struggled like mad to care about anything in the film, cliche script, one dimensional characters, even the aliens were rubbish. I wanted to turn it off but I stuck with it and was rewarded with nothing. Only good things were the parts where stuff blows up and Bridget Moynahan. 3/10

watched book of mormon while living in LA and thought it was alright - the humor was very flat and the music was below standard :(

i enjoyed "old" musicals more (loyd webber for example)

Thats to bad you didn't enjoy it as much. The one in Toronto was a riot! The actors can make a bigger difference I guess.

I'm picking up with

Fringe-S5PosterMain.jpg

that I left behind to enjoy in a speedrun. I wish I had the chance to watch more episodes back-to-back.

Unfortunately, after all this time, I'm failing to remember some bits of the story :/

Anybody seen it?

In the first episodes I got the impression that they structured much alike a video-game with this "recovering the plan bits" thing... I thought: "I see what you are doing JJ, well played".

Now I've just watched ep #6 and... this is turning very much to The Matrix! japu.gif

I'd only complain that these Observers go down too easily, for all the power they are supposed to have.

And, by the way, John Noble is quite great, I couldn't stand his character very much, in the first seasons he was too much of the comic shoulder of the show, but now he's arguably the main character.

I'm really hoping/curious to see JJ working with Valve for real.

This sixth episode made me think how well "dream" sections are being made in the last years, Alan Wake DLCs and even more Batman's... the one in Arkham City literally dropped my jaw.
