Erratic Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Sometimes, "foreign" films can be more appealing to the "foreign" crowd. The Swedish film industry is an inbred mess and I'm allergic to half of the actors in the original; especially the guy playing Blomkvist. So I can't really give an unbiased verdict. Loved the american version in any case. Went back to creep this thread before I posted to see if anyone caught this. I was going to post basically the same thing but about the american version. Had trouble getting by James Bond as Blomkvist. And I perfer rapace's salandar. I don't think it mattters in the end which one you see though. They're both good. I think the swedish version took it a bit slower with the vagnar story where the american version speeds through it to spend a bit more time with lisbeth's fucking around at the end. But it also has that swanky ass intro with the led zeppelin cover so that wins some points too I guess. Quote
Puddy Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Yeah, that intro is killer. But if you didn't like the Bond-connection, the intro doesn't really help. Got to listen to that song now... Quote

KoKo5oVaR Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Melancholia. What a pile of shit. I didn't saw it, but i would like to have more info about why ? Except that HUGE umm.. drama, with the melancholia planet .. Quote
Chimeray Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Melancholia. What a pile of shit. Agreed. My reason: Very annoying whiny character, which is sort of the point when you're depressed, but still... Saw Anchorman Pretty cool but I thought I´d be even funnier. Quote
D3ads Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 I watched an episode of the X-Files recently which had Jewel Staite when she was 8 years old (Season 3 - Oubliette) Quote
Steppenwolf Posted April 1, 2012 Report Posted April 1, 2012 Melancholia. What a pile of shit. I didn't saw it, but i would like to have more info about why ? Except that HUGE umm.. drama, with the melancholia planet .. - only unlikable obnoxious characters - super annoying shaky cam. It's basicly like von Trier tried to merge Dogme '95 with high production values. - pseudo intellectual/artistic wank fest. there are no subtleties. It just rubs everything in your face and wants you so badly to marvel at how talented and clever von Trier is but the effect is actualy the opposite. The planet is actualy the only good and interesting thing about the film but for the most part it's just a backdrop for the unbearable whining of the main characters instead of the center of the film. My opinion and i actualy liked Antichrist. Quote
Sentura Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 so after 13 years i got around to finally watching it. it's funny how some of those things you've wondered about for those years just suddenly start to make sense now. Quote
KoKo5oVaR Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 Fight Club generation : The 20th Century Fox buys the rights of a novel to make a controversial movie debunking mass marketing medias and consumerism ????? oh yes, manhood; the phantasm goes on, that sells; real men rediscover their virility with another bunch of muscular oiled men in a basement edit : i just learned that Chuck Palahniuk, the writer of "fight club" the novel is actually gay, which is actually quite funny if you rewatch fight club with that idea in head : A schizophrenic guy who reject the role society gives him and creates a "network" of men in a basement and make pink soaps to finance the organisation ? Actually it might be a movie about the sexual liberation of the gay community :x ( For the gay people here, nothing against that, but i would actually find it especially funny because of the lecture straight men have of this movie ) edit : Please excuse me, but this is actually too funny, some quotes : -The first rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. -Self-improvement is masturbation. Now, self-destruction … -If we are God's unwanted children, so be it! -I'm wondering if another woman is the answer we really need. -You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you, never wanted you, in all probability he hates you. It's not the worst thing that could happen. -All the ways you wish you could be, that's me. I look like you wanna look, I fuck like you wanna fuck, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not. -Listen up, maggots. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else. -With a gun barrel between your teeth, you speak only in vowels. -Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing. And i mean, pink soaps and a subliminal image of a guy showing his penis at the end of the movie I'll need the opinion of someone gay, but i don't know one that will tell me he is, so I'll never know; but if it's like i think, omg.. this is genius..
