It’s not as good as the “best sci-fi since Moon” title card suggests, but it’s interesting. It’s a story of survival that leaves you with so many questions about world details. It’s the most analog, in terms of tech, film in the genre I’ve seen in a while. I’ve almost watched this movie about 10 times -HP- 1 Quote
-HP- Posted January 17, 2022 Report Posted January 17, 2022 This reminds me, is there any sci-fi's you guys seen recently that you think it's actually worth watching? The genre is plagued with shit movies, but every now and again there's one that really pops. Quote
blackdog Posted January 17, 2022 Report Posted January 17, 2022 Just rewatch Dune my friend @-HP- Life was pretty good, at least in the first half. Some Alien vibes but I remember didn’t keep up throughout. Stowaway on Netflix was alright. I know they are not films but I am hoping to get a good sci-fi fix with The Silent Sea on Netflix, there is also Nightflyers on there (from RR Martin). Quote
ThunderKeil Posted January 23, 2022 Report Posted January 23, 2022 Archive 81 was pretty good (spoilers) Spoiler I think at the end, the only plot point I'm a bit confused about is how it's made pretty damn clear that opening the rift between worlds takes a whole ass list of components & actions, yet just rewatching the tapes seems on at least one occasion to pretty much let Kaelego enter Dan's workroom through the monitors . . ? Was that a waking dream of sorts? I mean he trashes the room, irl, so it's not like the other instances where everything was indeed just in his head & he wakes up in his bed Also like I really enjoyed it but I gotta be honest I really would have preferred if they hadn't set themselves up for a second season, not a big fan of this cliffhanger Quote
blackdog Posted January 24, 2022 Report Posted January 24, 2022 Spider-Man No Way Home. I enjoyed how they resurrected characters from past series. I dunno how my friend prefers Far From Home but hey Quote

Dabu Posted February 15, 2022 Report Posted February 15, 2022 I recently watched uh? the desolation of my bedroom and I cried to myself because it's fun. Quote
blackdog Posted February 16, 2022 Report Posted February 16, 2022 (edited) Reacher, really good and fun for me. Tapers off toward the end unfortunately, but seems very well received it’s granted that uncle Jeff will sign for a couple more seasons at least. You look at this guy and it makes you want to start doing push-ups and pull-ups. Also some very good music choices in there, it’s like the GTA of TV shows (blues in particular). Really hoping that the next Jack Ryan is not too far. Edited February 16, 2022 by blackdog Quote
FMPONE Posted February 18, 2022 Report Posted February 18, 2022 Been watching Smiling Friends. pretty awesome hgn 1 Quote
FMPONE Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 watched Possession (1981). I just love how uncompromising this is. https://archive.org/details/possession.1981.1080p.brrip.x264.aacetrg As I age and survey the artwork I really like, this uncompromising aspect seems to be a huge common denominator, much more so than any other factor (aesthetic, political, budgetary, etc). The actors say this film took them to the brink of insanity and I can very easily believe them, there is just no pull back in the performances. There are so many things I would personally change or do differently with a film like this, but unlike most films, changing anything would feel pointless here. The director’s bizarre intentions and decisions are actually the only consistent through line to the piece itself. Much like David Lynch’s work, I wouldn’t know how to change it to make it *better*, without ultimately moving it in a more focused and conventional direction. I came away pretty impressed. The views of Cold War Berlin are pretty astounding as well, the environments and scenery are really remarkably stark and cold and beautiful. The metaphors are at once pretty surface level (divorce, the Berlin Wall) but also not completely articulable (the whole supernatural aspect). Unfortunately, sound mixing is so bad that subtitles are kind of a must. I feel like I missed a good 30% of the dialogue, and the dialogue is surprisingly good and well written, so it is really a pity how hard it can be to hear the lines. I would recommend this very highly to people who like Lynch, but there are also really strong Cronenberg vibes. Quote
